Unforgettable day in Zurich, and the beautiful Swiss villages.Amazing walks through Zurich, scenic train journeys 🚆, relaxing ferry rides ⛴️, beautiful churches, castles, and stunning houses dating back to 1923, 1945, and even the Victorian era. The architecture was incredible, but so were the people, who were friendly, relaxed, and always smiling. 😊The weather was seriously hot, reaching 38°C ☀️🔥. It was so warm that half of Zurich seemed to be floating down the river to cool off, and honestly, I was tempted to join them! 😂As a wine professional, here’s the shocking part: it was so hot and humid that I barely touched champagne or wine. I know... Switzerland witnessed a sommelier choosing water over bubbles. 🍾➡️💧😅Great friends, beautiful memories, and one amazing Swiss adventure. So happy I got to experience it all. ❤️

Basel Old Town (Altstadt) is one of the most beautiful and historically rich medieval city centers in Europe. Sitting on the Rhine River, Basel developed from a Roman settlement into a powerful bishopric, a major trading city, a center of Renaissance humanism, and later one of Europe’s most important art capitals. Its narrow cobbled streets, merchant houses, guild halls, churches, fountains, and squares tell over 1,000 years of history 🏰 The heart of the Old Town is Grossbasel, on the south side of the Rhine. During the Middle Ages, bishops ruled from the hill around Basel Minster, merchants became wealthy through river trade, and guilds controlled the city’s economy. The founding of the University of Basel in 1460, Switzerland’s oldest university, transformed Basel into an international center of learning. Humanists, printers, artists, and scholars arrived from across Europe, making the city one of the intellectual capitals of the Renaissance 🏡🇨🇭At the center of the Old Town lies Marktplatz, the market square that has served as Basel’s commercial heart for centuries. Farmers, wine merchants, and traders from Alsace, Germany, and Switzerland gathered here to buy and sell goods. Overlooking the square is the magnificent Rathaus (Town Hall), famous for its red façade, golden decorations, and Renaissance frescoes. Built mainly in the 16th century, it symbolizes Basel’s political power and prosperity 🏰From Marktplatz, the medieval street Spalenberg climbs through one of the most charming parts of the city. Here, beautiful merchant houses line narrow cobblestone lanes. Many buildings preserve medieval foundations, carved doorways, painted shutters, hidden courtyards, and historic workshops. Walking these streets feels like stepping into a living museum of medieval urban life 🏰At the western edge of the Old Town stands Spalentor, Basel’s most impressive surviving city gate. Built around 1400 as part of the city’s defensive walls, it protected one of the main approaches into Basel from Alsace. Its tall central tower, flanking round towers, and medieval sculptures are among the finest examples of defensive architecture in Switzerland.
