M&S have recently partnered with a new Charity called YOUNG MINDS - Aimed at young children and the parents of these children.
To support the new partnership M&S and Young Minds have commissioned new research to better understand young peopleβs mental health.
The mental health of young people is a huge concern for many across the country and consistently tops the list of things M&S customers and colleagues say they care strongly about.
Thatβs why M&S and Young Minds have teamed up to help get more support to more young people, more quickly. Working together the partnership will aim to raise Β£5m over the next three years, with M&S announcing a Β£1m donation β enough to run the Young Minds parentsβ helpline for a year.
Β£5m will double the number of young people, and adults in their lives supported by Young Minds to 7 million people, primarily through digital resources and the parentsβ helpline.
M&S will also help its 30 million customers and 60,000 colleagues understand more about young peopleβs mental health and feel able to have better conversations with young people who may be struggling.
Here are some statistics about mental health in children:
β’ In the UK today, an estimated five children in every classroom have a mental health problem.
β’ 1 in 6 children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2020.
β’ Less than 1 in 3 young people with a mental health condition get access to NHS care and treatment.
β’ A quarter of 17-year-old girls have self-harmed in the last year.
β’ Su***de remains the single biggest killer of boys and young men.
We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health. Sometimes we feel well, and sometimes we donβt. Mental health is complicated because itβs about how we think, feel and act, and this is always changing. When our mental health is good, we enjoy being around other people and we feel able to take on challenges and new experiences. But when our mental health is not so good, we can find it much harder to cope.
Remember, if youβre struggling with how you think, feel or act, you are not alone, and things can get better. You deserve all the help and support you need to feel confident and comfortable being yourself so that you can enjoy life.
