16 facts for 16 years of VCL.

VCL Vintners Limited was incorporated on 2 August 2010, company number 07332119.

Stuart Thom and Benjamin Lancaster have run VCL since 2010, alongside a team of eighteen. Since then: over 50 distilleries sourced from, 15,882 casks under management, and £151,250,000 in client spirits held in independent HMRC-licensed bonds, managed on behalf of investors, across 2,000+ investors worldwide.

Our average annual return from 2020 to 2025 was 13.13%, published in full on our site every year. And we're rated 4.9 out of 5 from 482 independently collected reviews.

Sixteen years took us from a small London merchant to the 24th floor of The Shard. In 2021, we sold a 1991 Macallan cask with its ownership represented by a smart contract, the first of its kind, and at the time the highest price ever paid for a cask at auction: $2.33 million.

We also put ownership on the blockchain with Proof 8, with every cask independently recorded by a third-party trustee.

We bottle as well as broker: One Cask at a Time for rare single casks, and Wilder Heart, our American blended whiskey, launching this year.

We fund whisky education through our partnership with the Drinks Trust, extended in 2026. And we've featured in 47 press pieces and counting, including Forbes, Barron's, City AM, The Scotsman, The Evening Standard, and Robb Report.

Sixteen years in, we're still sourcing, still storing, still selling on behalf of the people who trusted us first.

Thank you. Here's to the next sixteen.

Scotch producers are cutting production. Investors aren't cutting their interest.

Export volumes fell 4.3% last year, but here's the thing about whisky: you can't rush it. What's being distilled (or not) right now decides what's available a decade from now. Less laid down today means less mature stock when it matters.

That's not automatically bullish for every cask. Scarcity only counts when it's paired with the right distillery, the right cask, and a real way to sell later. The market's getting pickier, not smaller.

From bourbon barrel to Scotch whisky cask. Here is how it works.

When casks are emptied of bourbon in the States, they come straight to . No double handling. No unnecessary detours. The team manages the selection, repair and reconditioning process on site before sending each cask out to distilleries across Scotland.

It is a shorter, cleaner supply chain. A smaller carbon footprint. And a single point of contact if anything needs attention.

In this episode of The Whisky Investment Podcast, hosted by , Graham Hamilton explains how Oakwood keeps Scotland's distilleries supplied with the right wood at the right time.

This is how a cask gets a second life.

After one or two maturations of Scotch whisky, the charred layer inside the cask becomes spent. At , coopers strip it back, expose the fresh wood beneath and set it alight again, replicating the conditions of a brand new cask.

It is called rejuvenation. And it is one of the reasons the right cask can keep giving for decades.

In this episode of The Whisky Investment Podcast, hosted by , Graham Hamilton walks through the craft behind every cask.

The angel's share has always taken its cut. This summer, it took more.

Record temperatures across the UK mean warmer warehouses, faster evaporation, and less whisky left in every cask. Swipe to understand what that means for scarcity.

"The investment process was actually excellent. That's the only word I can use. It was friendly and not a hard sale. It was whatever we wanted and what was available and at what price we wanted to invest."

"Yes, I would say the quicker you actually invest, the better it will be much later on." Brian Crawford, retired teacher & whisky cask investor.

Whisky cask investment is one of the few alternative assets that genuinely improves with time. As a cask matures, its value grows and unlike stocks or crypto, it's a tangible product sitting in a bond, aging quietly on your behalf.

At VCL, no two clients are the same. Whether you're just starting out with a single cask or building a portfolio, our brokers take the time to understand what you want, what's available, and what makes sense for you. Bespoke knowledge and guidance at every step.

Last night we had the pleasure of hosting an exclusive client evening at our office at The Shard, bringing together a great group of investors for an evening of tasting with One Cask at a Time

Guided by Jamie Morrison , Brand Ambassador for One Cask at a Time, guests had the chance to taste directly from the cask and hear first-hand what makes single cask whisky such a compelling asset class.

This is what we love most about what we do at VCL. Whisky investment starts with understanding what is in the cask and why it matters. There is nothing quite like tasting that for yourself.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us. It was a genuinely special evening.
