Below are the detailed tasting notes for this Ardmore 2009 Barrel by Colin Hampden-White (Keeper of the Quaich)

Colour: Honey

Nose: Lots of sweet orchard fruits with apples and apricots coming through the most. In the background there is oily sweet smoke which develops with air and makes the nose a very balanced and rounded. Earthy aromas and a little vanilla also start to come through.

Palate: Sweet oily smoke and heather honey with fresh red apple and a little baked apple all mingle together before spice starts to build up and balances whisky beautifully. Pepper and light toffee mix well as the smoke dries and becomes wood smoke.

Finish: The smoke stays dry from a wood fire, and the spices intermingle and are complex. Black pepper and dry oak come through at the very end.

Conclusion: This is a brilliant expression of Ardmore at this age and even through the alcohol is high I would see this in a bottle anytime from now on. It will age further and age well but is delicious now.
