Golden rays on a Sunday with CECI 1938 Nero di Lambrusco IGT Emilia, Otello 1813 is made from Lambrusco Maestri grapes harvested at the beginning of October.

This deep dark purple with violet highlights, semi-sparkling red with notes of berries, cherry, and lilac hints with a touch of musk on the nose is a rather delicious way to ease into a cosy autumn.

Also, proof, if we needed it, that sparkling w**e season certainly doesn’t end with summer!

This is the time of year when the Falanghina grapes for Luciano Ercolino’s Irpinia Falanghina DOC ‘Fontana della Loggia’ are traditionally harvested, during the first 10 days of October.

Fresh, bright and mineral-driven, the w**e brings together notes of lime, grapefruit, kiwi and delicate florals, with vibrant acidity and a clean finish. A lovely expression of one of Campania’s native grape varieties and a particularly fitting bottle to have on our minds as this year’s harvest is now underway.

Sunday and we’re opting for Zenato Winery Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC 2025; refreshing, elegant, delicately scented and soft on the palate, perfect as September draws to a close.

The grapes are hand-harvested during September, bringing plenty of freshness to the glass with citrus, delicate floral notes and a smooth, refreshing finish.

A final little nod to lighter drinking before October begins.

Behind every glass, there’s all the (very hard) work that happens much before it reaches it. At Ca'del Baio , the harvest and cellar season is very much underway and a reminder that September is one of the busiest and most exciting times in the w**e calendar!

We’re sampling their Langhe Chardonnay DOC ‘Sermine’ 2023, a fuller, more textured white from Piedmont with floral and fruit notes, gentle nuttiness and a beautifully balanced finish.

Choosing our bottle for the week. Time for Kellerei St. Michael Eppan - Cantina Produttori San Michele Appiano Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC, Classica 2024.

Garnet-red in colour with an aroma reminiscent of wild berries, raspberry and blackberry. Compact, elegant, fruity and spicy. It’s the bottle of red we love to enjoy at this point in the year, just as summer starts to soften.

Sunday is a glass of sparkling! We’re pouring Soligo Spumanti Prosecco Rosé Treviso Brut, bringing together Glera and Pinot Nero for a fresh sparkling rProsecco Rosé Treviso Brut, bringing together Glera and Pinot Nero for a fresh sparkling rosé from Veneto .

With the Pinot Nero harvest taking place at the end of August and Glera following into September, this feels like a rather fitting bottle for this point in the season. A final flash of pink before our glasses start heading firmly into autumn.

There’s a definite change in the air and our glasses with Cordero Di Montezemolo with their Barolo DOCG ‘Monfalletto’ 2021.

Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it pours an intense garnet red, with floral and spicy notes alongside to***co, cherry, cocoa and fresh raspberry. Rich, full-bodied and elegant on the palate, it feels perfectly suited to September as long summer evenings surely give way to autumn.

Piedmont season has begun.

Stopping in Lugana. The vineyards around the southern shores of Lake Garda are moving ever closer to harvest, with the Trebbiano di Lugana grapes for S. Cristina’s ‘Vigneto Massoni’ traditionally picked by hand towards the end of September.

In the glass, fresh, and fruity, with notes of grape, peach, citron, grapefruit, and a hint of pineapple, which adds tropical character. On the palate, the w**e is approachable, fresh, and has good minerality.

September in Puglia means harvest season is getting closer everyday. At Leone de Castris the grapes for their Salice Salentino DOC Riserva ‘50° Vendemmia’ are traditionally harvested towards the end of this month. One of the most exciting times of the Italian w**e calendar is almost here!

This is a rich southern Italian red with warmth, depth and plenty of character with deep garnet hues, perfect to toast to an early autumnal supper.

September is here meaning the Eurow**es team are opting for a glass of red 🍷 Starting in Tuscany with Donna Laura Wines and their Chianti Classico DOCG ‘Bramosia’.

Made predominantly from Sangiovese, with a touch of Merlot, it’s full of ripe cherry and red fruit with gentle spice and beautifully balanced acidity with well integrated accents of wood and spice. Pasta on the table, Bramosia in the glass. September, we’re ready.
