The moog goes in first, dry — just until it smells nutty.

Then comes the panch phoron, bloomed in hot ghee. The order matters; it is what keeps the spices warm and fragrant rather than bitter.

In my family, the daal is kept thin, almost like a broth, and poured over kaali jeera bhat.

Every Bengali household has its own way of doing it. And, naturally, every household is convinced theirs is the right one.

A supper club is really about the people — strangers arriving separately, sharing one table, and leaving with stories to take home.

There was plenty of conversation, a little debate over which chutney was best, and sixteen seats filled out of twenty on a first night in a room that was still finding its place.

Thank you for taking the chance on us.
The next table is coming.

Some evenings are meant to be remembered slowly.

A long table in North London, familiar Bengali flavours, and new faces becoming friends over supper.

Our first table. The next one is coming.

Built in one bowl, eaten standing up in a north London kitchen. 😆❤️

Nine plates, and not one of them is a restaurant dish. These are the things a Bengali household actually eats, cooked with the same care I would give a canapé.
Which one would you have gone back for?
