JUNE SPECIAL: JUMA PAPAYA CUTTER 🇧🇧 🇮🇶

This month we’re teaming up with and our good friend Phil Juma.

Phil has been a massive supporter of BARBS from the beginning and someone I’ve looked up to for a long time. Through Juma, he’s helped shine a spotlight on Iraqi food in London, introducing people to flavours and dishes that deserve to be far better known. He’s built something authentic, rooted in heritage, and that’s something we relate to deeply.

At BARBS, we’re on a similar mission with Bajan food. Sharing the flavours we grew up with, representing them properly, and showing people there’s so much more to Caribbean food than they might expect.

The result is the Juma Papaya Cutter.

Our Bajan fried chicken, topped with Phil’s amba sauce blended with fresh mango, papaya slaw and BARBS Fancy Sauce.

Sweet, sharp, fruity and packed with flavour.

A collaboration between two friends, two cultures, and two businesses proud of where they come from.

Available throughout June at the National Theatre.

The World Cup is on at BARBS. ⚽🇧🇧

We are screening the tournament on the ground floor at Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch, two big LED screens, all the atmosphere, and our Bajan kitchen serving the whole way through. Tenders, wings, burgers and wraps, all made from scratch.

We will be showing most games. England matches are ticketed from £10 and include a drink, and they are expected to sell out, so grab yours early.

Join me in wishing Grandad William a very happy 103rd Birthday today!

If you’ve dined at the Queen of Hoxton you may have seen a picture of grandma and grandad on the wall, they are still going strong and I managed to capture a few shots over FaceTime in between them chatting to neighbours and playing the harmonica.

I’m not saying that Bajan is the key to a long and happy life but it plays its role!
