Hidden Curiosities Gin

Hidden Curiosities Gin Multi-award winning Japanese inspired craft gins. Distilled in the Surrey Hills. Great Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hidden Curiosities Gin was created by Cravat Club director Jenny, who after extensive research sampling nigh on 100 different craft gins over the course of a year, dedicated her time and passion to develop a unique recipe with a very distinctive character. The balance of aromatic spices from 5 different peppercorns and green cardamom, paired with strong citrus flavours from yuzu and pink grapefrui

t, and supported by a whole orchestra of highly delectable botanicals, formed a deeply complex and multifaceted artisan gin. Working very closely with a local, yet renowned distillery in the Surrey Hills, who carried the right expertise for this exciting new project, Jenny was able to perfect and fine-tune her recipe in order to produce the specific result she had in mind. Using their magnificent hand-built 350 litre copper still, charismatically powered by a wood fired steam boiler, her first batch of Hidden Curiosities gin was born. Jenny says, "I truly believe this gin is something very special indeed; the flavours transform depending on how you serve and garnish your Hidden Curiosities gin. It is extremely palatable neat, or by adding a splash of tonic will release more of the hidden botanicals residing in the background. "My recommended garnish for the perfect gin & tonic would be pink peppercorns and green cardamom to intensify the spices; perfect for a winter gin or if you have a penchant for pepperiness like myself! Or for a refreshing clean citrus taste, add a twist of pink grapefruit or yuzu peel."

Bottling up a select few of our original Hidden Curiosities Gin Batch No. 7 to celebrate World Gin Day✨🍸✨

Batch 7 is in incredibly short supply now, and we’re labelling up the final few bottles to send out. Owing to the small-scale distillation runs, each batch comes out with its own distinct personality, tweaked to perfection by Jenny herself.

Batch 7 has a big, bold flavour with a heavier spice and pepper-forward profile to awaken your senses. This makes the most of the five different types of peppercorn involved in the botanical recipe.

Batch 8 in contrast has an exceptionally smooth and balanced finish, tweaked to give a brighter, more assertive citrus accent, along with creamy Tahitian vanilla.

The choice is yours, but you’ll have to be quick if you want to snag a bottle of Batch 7 before it’s gone. Both are available to order right now via our online store.

How to Make the Perfect Negroni 🥃🍊🧊

A Negroni's timelessness is its real strength. The drink is never really in vogue (in the same way a spritz has been, for example) and never really falls out of fashion; it’s a reliable staple that will always work. Medicinal and bitter but luxuriously sweet, boozy and stout enough for winter but crisp enough for the sunshine, it can be enjoyed year-round with ease.

What’s more, it’s a simple drink to make from just a few ingredients, requiring no special technique or equipment, yet the taste is more than the sum of its parts. The drink’s image is hard to pin down too; it’s as at home on the riviera as it is in the city, and is both a throwback classic and a refined, urbane choice. It’s hard to think of many other drinks that cover as much ground. As such, we’re huge fans of the Negroni at Hidden Curiosities. The drink has enough going on to be complex, but the flavours tend to work to enhance the botanical elements of the gin in the glass. There is, frankly, almost nothing it can’t do, and we can scarcely imagine life without it. But where did it come from?

A humid Friday night has us reaching for some citrusy flavours, and we’ve yet to find another gin that contains quite the sherberty, fragrant hit of our Aranami Navy Strength.

Served simply with fresh lemon and a tiny splash of good tonic water, the complexity is offset with a featherlight touch, making for a characterful but very refined glass. 🍸🍋

How Japan Fell in Love with Craft Gin

Not so long ago, the craft gin scene in the UK exploded, with countless small distillers experimenting to create a host of new, exciting products. This new school paid homage to the classics while all adding their own personalities, with many going on to great success and ubiquity.

A few years later, Japan saw this and had its own ideas. What followed was a flowering of some of the most inspired recipes ever bottled, in our opinion, and a burgeoning scene that explored gin in new ways. We’d like to talk some more about what Japanese gin is, what makes it distinct, and why it might be worth your time to try some.

Tailwind ✈️

A high-flying twist on the classic Aviation cocktail, where yuzu-infused Hidden Curiosities gin meets Crème de Violette, blackberry and maraschino liqueurs, alongside cherry blossom vermouth, lemon and cardamom bitters.

Drawing inspiration from the fragrant gardens of the Far East, vibrant yuzu and delicate Sakura notes give this cocktail a beautifully floral lift.

Finally, a whisper of Mezcal smoke adds depth, carrying this elegant cocktail smoothly into new skies.
