Welcome to Slanguage School: This week’s word: Späti

It’s late, you’re hungry, you’re out of snacks, or maybe you just fancy a b**r with friends. Where do you go? The Späti.
Short for Spätkauf (spät = late, Kauf = purchase), a Späti is a small shop selling everyday essentials, usually open late into the night - and a much-loved part of everyday life in Berlin.

A: We’re out of milk.
B: I’ll get some from the Späti.

Or

A: What are you doing tonight?
B: Nothing much. Fancy a b**r at the Späti?
