Folic Acid vs Methylfolate: Why One Actually Works Better

We break down the difference between folic acid and methylfolate-two forms of B9 that sound the same but work very differently in your body. While folic acid is synthetic and cheap, your body has to convert it into its active form (methylfolate) before using it, which isn’t always efficient, especially if you have the MTHFR genetic variation.
Methylfolate, on the other hand, is already active and ready to use immediately for DNA synthesis, red blood cell production, nervous system support, and pregnancy health. We explain why methylfolate is the smarter choice, particularly during pregnancy when proper folate status is critical for preventing neural tube defects.
