Microgreens coming along well, most of the bottom shelf will be harvested today.

More #peashoots and my first ever #sunshoots were sown last night and are currently germinating. Along with a new tray of my tried and true varieties.

If you're a #foodblogger in #northLondon and you fancy a #microgreens taste test (yes, they are packed with flavour and nutrients as well as looking pretty!) let me know in the comments or send me a DM and we'll work something out.

As for the experiment, I'm calling it done, the result is that I was unable to refute the null hypothesis - I could see no difference in the disease resistance between the sterilised trays and those inoculated with vermicompost tea. I'll probably stick to sterilised for the time being as it's simpler and easier, but I may run more (longer) trials.

Microgreens week 2: red amaranth, salad rocket and the remaining beetroot are all ready to harvest, basil needs another week.

Peashoots are a few days behind, but they were started later than the rest so that's to be expected.

Have this morning started soaking some more pas and some sunflower ๐ŸŒปseeds - exciting times!

There's a second tray not pictured, that's running a little under a week behind this one. No suprised there except that the red veined sorrel still has not germinated. No luck germinating coriander either - will try again with fresh seed.

Oh yeah, we also grow Basil. I was actually introduced to someone last week as "The basil man" #proud

#Microgreens day 10: #radish replaced with #peashoots, #rocket and #redamaranth looking healthy, #basil still small (but mighty!).

Have harvested half the #beetroot, beautiful red/green contrast, earthy flavour. Will try planting more densely next time.

In other news, started another tray last night, going slightly experimental with #redveinedsorrel #chives and one #redrussiankale

#microgreens experiment day 9: #radish and #beetroot are ready to harvest. Have noticed better yield on sterilised beetroot. This might have been inconsistent sowing density.

Microgreens experiment day 5: no difference between the batches, everything's well germinated and I've just moved them under the lights.

They'll also get regular watering and some nutrients to encourage healthy growth.

All the growth so far has come from just the seed - quite amazing really.

Microgreens experiment Day 3: still no difference between either side, but it's clear to see that everything's germinated (except maybe the beetroot). The radish in particular are doing well and are on track for harvesting next week!

Microgreens experiments day 2: both left and right sides have started germinating, so far no difference.
(As a reminder, the right side have been inoculated with #vermicomposttea while the left were sterilised with dilute H2O2 solution. We're trying to see if the compost tea lends the microgreens some disease resistance).

Microgreens experiment day 1:

The punnets on the right have been misted with vermicompost tea, those on the left with H2O2 as a steriliser.

I've planted four punnets each of five varieties of microgreens: Radish, Salad Rocket, Red Amaranth, Basil and Beetroot.

The hypothesis is that the inoculated punnets will be more resistant to disease like damping off as the good bacteria in the tea will out compete the bad bacteria such as pythium. It will take a couple of weeks to grow these to maturity, but I'll keep you posted.
