National Children and Young Adult Services

National Children and Young Adult Services Our organisation provides various different activities and opportunities to young children and adults from the ages of 11-25.

National Children and Young Adult Services (NCAYAS) is a non-profit organization providing mentoring and counselling programs for children and young adults in London. NCAYAS’s main focus is to foster a commitment to young people that promotes pro-social friendship, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope of future. We believe that building personal relationships can re-establish

an individual sense of responsibility that will give young people the commitment to follow through on the path to adulthood with pride and accomplishment. In this time and age, repeated failures in the classroom can end up development of destructive habits and young people feel at risk and lose their faith in the possibilities that awaits them if they are successful in putting their lives together. Young people must be in a caring and learning environment that promotes their best efforts and reinforces personal respects. Our programs form partnerships with local schools, communities, and Jump Rope- performing arts to conduct free art classes and other clubs such as cooking, dancing, after school, counselling and sports. Our professional volunteer team aim to identify children and young adults who can have turbulence transitions in their adulthood and offer positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives.

Melba-Anne is 19 and lives in North London, she is currently volunteering at the NCAYAS as a Digital Promotional Officer. Before volunteering she encountered obstacles that almost prevented her from progressing in life. Three years ago Malba-Anne was diagnosed with depression and she was suicidal. She believed her childhood was robed, because she had to mature faster than what is expected for an average child.

She felt isolated from society, because she was often treated as an outsider especially during primary school and secondary school. Although Melba-Anne had painful thoughts and experience, her mother and nephew contributed to her transformation. Looking after her nephew made her feel self-worth because she felt needed and loved. Also volunteering at the NCAYAS contributed to her transformation in developing emotionally and socially, which was beyond her imagination.

If you feel your overwhelmed with many emotions and have very little support, the NCAYAS is able to provide counselling sessions that can help you with your emotional and social development. Also we can offer volunteer positions, apprenticeship and work schemes. These opportunities may contribute to helping you feel similar to Melba-Anne positive transformation, in regards to her feeling self-worth, needed and supported.

Avril, a 23 year old Psychology graduate with Indian heritage, grew up in Tottenham, an area known for it's rising reputation for crime. Avril experienced some social anxiety and depression, although, she emphasizes she felt very much connected to her family and the community. Feeling unsafe and at risk of being 'the next target', both herself and her family made the transition to move to leafy Enfield, aged 13. Avril found her emotional and creative outlet through attending drama school.

She later developed an interest in the Mental Health sector and an interest in a holistic approach to treating illness and so rather than medicating she feels passionate about the impact of talking therapies across different disciplines. Avril has shown great courage strength and determination in overcoming her unique experiences and working through her past struggles to focus on her future dream and aspiring to be an actress. She has joined forces with an empowering organisation called National Children and Young Adult Services whom have celebrated countless success stories. The organisation offers an individually tailored pathway to suit the needs of the user. Avril has worked towards her career goals on an initiative working with the National Children and Young Adult Services.

There, she has grown in confidence and undertaken a personal development and employability skills programme at the North London centre. As a result, she is receiving business mentoring and support, and is now working towards establishing her own business and opening a Drama School to help children and young people who have been through similar experiences. She hopes to use drama as a coping mechanism, invest in and develop young people.
