This month marks the 10th Anniversary of the publication of my 1st cookbook ‘Nikkei Cuisine’, published in the UK & US in Oct 2015, and later in other countries & languages incl. Portuguese, Japanese, Italian & Spanish. Many of you were here at the time & will remember what an exciting time it was for me. Nikkei was a catalyst for many wonderful things that happened in my life including meeting many of you, readers & diners of the supperclub who at that time were simply curious to learn about this little-known cuisine but who stuck around & today are regulars & good friends.
One of these diners was the lovely Fritha Saunders who found me at the supper club, believed in my work & asked me to write a book about it. Little did I know that the original concept of a book about my London supperclub would morph into something much bigger, requiring extensive research in Brazil, Peru & Japan and 2 years of writing. I am eternally grateful to my publisher Jacki Small of , who saw the author in me. I’m indebted to ‘Team Nikkei’, an army of amazing professionals who beat the book into shape - editor & friend Nikki Sims , project manager Manisha Patel & food photographer extraordinaire Lisa Linder.
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Nikkei Cuisine, I am planning a special NIKKEI FISH & SEAFOOD menu for Xmas 2025 at the supperclub using recipes from the cookbook, some of these never offered before with a strong focus on Peruvian- and Brazilian-Japanese flavours + the freshest fish & seafood from Billingsgate.
Dr G & I are now regulars at Billingsgate which means a 4am wake-up call & a 30min car ride, but it also means that I can purchase better quality & more affordable fish for the events. Because of this, I’ve been able to reintroduce a no. of fish dishes to the menu which had become too costly, given that the £65 supper club fee has not been increased for the last 3 years.
