3 LEGENDS!

Andi, DJ and Claire are talented professional chefs who graciously volunteer their talent and time to Mike’s Table.

They arrive at 5pm, access the surplus food donated by , creatively devise a 3-course menu and serve at 7.30pm

Last Friday’a highlight was a starter of Pumpkin and Ginger Soup with Black Chickpeas, crumbled Feta and Basil Oil.

Andi and DJ have been with us from the start and last Friday was Claire’s 5th anniversary. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Core members of The Mike’s Table team worked together 20+ years ago at the legendary Andrew Edmunds Restaurant in Soho.

You may spot Andi, Daniel and Louise in this relic image from the 00s.

With Andrew’s recent unexpected death we are reminded of those happy times and how we built lasting friendships with colleagues and customers from those years.

Andrew was so proud when he learned that we were still working together.

A big thank you Andrew. RIP. X

At our last evening we introduced the ‘tip jar’ and asked our guests to offer suggestions as to how we can improve our offer.

One guest asked his neighbour to read out what he had written. Everyone was so moved by his words.
(A late tip was to provide tissues to dry away the tears)

Thank you for enabling us to enjoy our work and thank you to the many charities and organisations who refer such amazing guests to join us at the table.

We’ve been using surplus food since we started way back in 2017.

We receive generous donations from
and our chefs devise a 3 course menu from this. They are so imaginative that we have to buy very little supplementary produce.

Last Fridays menu:
We started with roast aubergine on goat (soy for vegan) yoghurt topped with cherry tomatoes, chilis and pickled red onion served with a home made flat bread. (all surplus except for the cherry tomatoes and chilis)

Main course was either marinated silken tofu or seared beef rump on spelt tagliatelle topped with Dukkah (we bought nuts and fermented bean paste)

Dessert was a fatless apple and nut cake made from a recipe out of Mike’s old student vegetation cook book 😊
We made a vegan version using egg replacer. We served the cake with thick cream on top (or soy yoghurt) and a mini toffee apple on the side. (We bought nuts, and egg replacer. The apples were from Louise’s garden)

Empty plates all round 👍

First event in a while so it was good to see our guests enjoy the lovely food, the ambiance and the company.
