One guest, an artist who has joined us at many Mike’s Tables over the years, brought a beautiful homemade gift for us. Here’s what some guests shared:

Our partnership with is cherished at Mike’s Table. After our successful collaboration last year, we were delighted to return to their beautiful, canal-side home in Haggerston for another Supper Club.

are part of , a nationwide charity supporting brain injury survivors, their families and carers. They also run Headway EATS, a supper club series, which is led by a group of people living with brain injury.

For this supper club, our usual Mike’s Table volunteers joined the wonderful Headway team to bring an inclusive, restaurant-quality dining experience for all guests. We hosted 48 guests, a mix of Mike’s Table guests referred by charity partners and users of Headway’s Casework Service, which provides free advice and support to brain injury survivors, their families and carers.

Together, we shared a delicious 3-course menu created using surplus ingredients from , with a special performance by Headway member DJ K-Line, who provided a selection of disco and funk records throughout the evening. Collaborations like this are essential to our work, allowing more people who may be experiencing social isolation to attend our supper clubs, ensuring they feel welcomed and connected with others around the table.

Thank you to the wonderful Headway team for making this event possible. Our menu from the evening featured:

Starters:
Tomato and garlic bruschetta + Mushroom crostini

Main:
Gumbo serviced with rice
Spiced black bean and tomatoes served with charred broccoli and rice

Dessert:
Apple tart

On Tuesday 22nd July, we hosted a very special evening in collaboration with the LSE Legal Advice Clinic. This night was dedicated to remembering Mike, his brilliance and dedication to his students, to celebrate Mike’s Table, and mark the wonderful beginning of the LSE Legal Advice Clinic.

For those who didn’t know Mike, he was a Professor of Law at LSE, and the much-loved husband of Louise, who started Mike’s Table in his honour.

The evening was hosted on the 8th floor of the LSE law department, which is now the beautiful home of the Clinic. One of the highlights was bringing together representatives from our incredible charity partners at Mike’s Table, many of whom we met for the first time, after years of them referring guests. This evening was not only a huge thank you for their work, but a chance to introduce them to the Clinic.

We’ve written a blog on our website, reflecting on the evening. Please find the link in our bio, if you wish to find out more about the LSE Legal Advice Clinic.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!

A very special supper club in collaboration with . We welcomed 34 guests at the beautiful Thingy Cafe () based in Trowbridge Gardens, which is one of Hackney Herbal’s growing sites.

The menu was herb-themed, infused with Hackney Herbals home-grown herbs. Guests enjoyed the evening sun with a welcome drink and snacks of homemade guacamole, leek and cheese dip (incredible) with crusty bread, lamb chops with salsa verde, and frittata with asparagus.

Nat from Hackney Herbal led guests through a herbal tea blending workshop, introducing us to herbs and explaining their benefits, effects and origin. For one guest, they shared how the tea has been especially comforting, even helping them sleep more peacefully.

Guests then sat at 3 long tables to enjoy a delicious 2-course dinner using ingredients donated by ; smoky aubergine and pepper tagine with herby potatoes and salsa verde, followed by a family-style summer trifle.

This event fell during refugee week (hosted by our friends at ), and the theme this year was Community as a Superpower. This deeply resonates with Mike’s Table’s mission to bring people together from across the community to sit and eat well together. This event was a true celebration of the power of food to build bridges and foster connection.

Hüseyin was a guest at our Luminous Feast event in December. We soon discovered that Hüseyin is an incredibly talented artist, who uses his unique style to draw people who mean something important to him. At the event, Hüseyin used the back of our order pad to sketch two young guests who had come with their family. It was such a lovely moment of connection between our guests, who had never met before.

A few weeks later, we received beautiful drawings by Hüseyin of the Mike’s Table team- Louise, Mala and Justine (you might recognise them!). We were deeply touched, and will treasure these beautiful drawings.

Thank you and , our wonderful charity partner who holds weekly art therapy for asylum seekers and refugees in London.

This January, we’ve been reflecting on everything we achieved at Mike’s Table in the last year. We welcomed a total of 124 non-paying guests for an evening at Mike’s Table, referred by our wonderful charity partners. We’re delighted that this year, we can continue to make our events free for those who need it, and this is largely made possible through the National Lottery Awards for All funding.

We have an exciting series of Supper Club evenings coming up this year, including exciting new collaborations, venues, and guest chefs. We can’t wait to welcome you for an evening of delicious food and community! If you’re keen to join us, please see the link to buy tickets for upcoming events in the bio.

Guests will then enjoy a delicious menu curated by our volunteer professional chefs using surplus ingredients from City Harvest. As always, our menu is created spontaneously on the night - we can’t wait to see what the team comes up with.

We’re welcoming 30 guests referred by our partner charities, who support individuals experiencing social isolation. Guests are invited to enjoy a wonderful evening of food and community free-of-charge.

Yelp employees will also be joining us, bringing our communities together. Thank you to Yelp and Art’otel for making this evening possible!
