Modern Game Club UK

Modern Game Club UK The Modern Game Chicken breed club The man made evolution of Modern Game from fighting fowl is well documented in old Poultry Books.
(1)

With the advent of Poultry Shows following the abolition of cock fighting in 1849, judges started looking for taller birds, shorter hackle and smaller tails. Over the next period of 50 years Exhibition Modern Game evolved and later the name Exhibition was dropped from their name. They went through quite a decline at the outset of WW1, especially the large fowl, but are now increasing on a world-wi

de basis and are as popular as ever. They are well supported in Holland, Germany, USA, Canada, Australia and our Modern Game Club UK has around 150 members.

In my strain of silver duckwings, I occasionally get a few with a yellow tinge down. I haven’t followed them through adulthood to see if they evolve into something different from the others, but I will make sure to do that with this one. These two are full siblings and they are pure silver duckwings (i.e. not a golden duckwing or blackred). Anyone else with this experience? …Anders

It is about time to start putting together the breeding pens. But, as always, there are a few birds that simply do not cut the mustard. My preferred way to use them is to put them in a raised (modern) game pie. In this case there are a couple of blue duckwings that will add to the Christmas dinner. Merry Christmas to you all!

Ten years ago today, Marc McCullough won the club show of The Modern Game Club with a silver duckwing c**kerel. The show was at the Federation in Stafford and was judged by Christer Larsson, Klas Björk and Anders Clarhäll. Fantastic bird, great show and a fine memory for all of us who were there.

Modern Game proved, as usual, competitive at The Swedish National Poultry Show. The championship row of seven birds had no less than two Modern Game picked from all breeds of poultry. Klas Björk’s pile c**kerel advanced to be awarded best in show. Congratulations Klas!

Swedish National Poultry Show was held a month earlier than usual to reduce the risk of having it canceled when avian flue season starts. The early date might be the reason for an all time low number of entered birds. At least, we should be lucky the show could be realised! Birds on the pictures are shown by Klas Björk, Christer Larsson and Anders Clarhäll.
