That’s Pieter Walser of BLANKbottle with our very own Richard, at Pieter’s w**ery in South Africa earlier this year.

And now Pieter’s coming to Richmond Hill. 🇿🇦🍷

We’re having a BLANKbottle party and you’re invited.

With Pieter, you learn to expect the unexpected. His w**es start with intriguing vineyards, unexpected discoveries and chance encounters and somehow end up with names like Moment of Silence, Frostbite at Westpeak and Familiemoord, usually with a very good story attached.

A new shipment of BLANKbottle w**es is currently making its way to us from South Africa and we’ll be opening a generous selection on the night. Expect old favourites, new vintages and, knowing Pieter, probably a few surprises too.

No formal sit-down tasting for this one.

Just w**e, pizza, music, Pieter and a party.

It seems you’ve already discovered this one… 👀

Criante G24 Grillo has been going down rather well on our w**e bar menu this month.

From Alcamo, western Sicily, it’s 100% Grillo: bright, characterful and wonderfully Mediterranean, with white pear and citrus, a little wild-herb lift and a fresh, salty finish.

And yes, we’re rather partial to that label too.

Swipe to Sicily, where apparently even mid-harvest there’s always time to stop, eat and raise a glass. We can get behind that. 🇮🇹

Well, this is rather lovely news… 🥂

We’re delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist for Independent W**e Retailer of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards 2027.

Being independent gives us the freedom to do what we love: seek out brilliant w**es, build lasting relationships with the people who make them, bring producers into our shops, open interesting bottles and help you discover something you might not otherwise have found.

Our final slide rather sums it up: our own Mark with Markus Lentsch, one of the brilliant producers we’re lucky enough to work with directly.

So this one is for everyone who makes The Good W**e Shop what it is, our brilliant team and partners, the producers who trust us with their w**es and everyone who comes through our doors to shop, taste, talk and discover. Thank you!

We’re in excellent company alongside Highbury Vintners, Lea & Sandeman and Vinotopia W**e Merchant and we’ll find out who takes the title in February.

Until then, we might just open something good… 🍾

Yesterday: biblical rain.
Today: apparently summer again. ☀️

Which seems as good an excuse as any for a little throwback to one of summer w**e fairs and one fizz that really doesn’t care what season it is.

J. Laurens Les Graimenous Crémant de Limoux is on our By the Glass list this month: bright and citrusy, with crisp orchard fruit, fine bubbles and a lovely little savoury, brioche-y edge.

Proper traditional-method sparkling w**e, without the Ch*****ne price tag and frankly just as happy on a September Wednesday as it was being poured on Kew Green in June.

Pouring 🌦️🫢 by the glass across our shops all September. 🥂

Old vines. Rare grapes. A new generation of Valencia. 🇪🇸🍷

Meet Can’ Leandro, the family project of brothers Gabriel and Alberto Sanchis Mestre in the hills inland from Valencia.

The name means “Leandro’s house”, a nod to their grandfather and the generations of family grape-growing knowledge behind the w**ery. Today, the brothers are breathing new life into old bush vines and indigenous varieties, some familiar, others rather less so.

🍋 La Vella 2024
80% Merseguera, 10% Malvasía, 10% Tortosí. Bright, fragrant and textured, with citrus, orchard fruit and a lovely chalky freshness.

🍒 Alt de les Flors 2023
90% Monastrell with Bonicaire, Arcos, Garnacha & Merseguera. Dark berries, wild herbs and spice, with freshness and elegance from its high-altitude limestone soils.

Proof that sometimes the most exciting way forward is to look at what was there all along.

Both w**es are available online and in our shops now.

Good w**e. Real people. Great stories.

What’s on? A new month of w**es by the glass 🍷

September means a fresh line-up at our w**e bars and there are some rather lovely things open.

Start with Crémant de Limoux, wander through Grauburgunder, Oregon white and Sicilian Grillo, then head into Etna Rosso or Margaret River Cabernet. Or rosé. Obviously rosé is still allowed, none of us believe summer is completely over.

Our w**es by the glass change every month, giving you the chance to discover something new without committing to the whole bottle. Although, should you wish to commit, we fully support that decision.

And remember, the list is only the beginning: every bottle on our shelves is available to drink in, with corkage of £10 per bottle.

And a special shout-out to Ian at Kew for turning this month’s w**e list into a work of chalkboard art. 👏

Come in. Pick a glass. Find a new favourite. 🍷

Good W**e. Real People. Great Stories.

California, but not as you know it. 🇺🇸🍷

It began in the 1950s when a group of Stanford Research engineers bought an old vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a weekend retreat. They made a little Cabernet. It turned out to be rather good.

More than 60 years later, Ridge Vineyards has become one of California’s most revered producers – while continuing to do things very much its own way.

Our latest releases include the historic Geyserville 2024, old-vine Lytton Springs 2024 (in bottles and very handy halves) and Three Valleys 2024, a brilliant introduction to Ridge.

The tiny allocation of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has already been snapped up by our private clients, but the rest have just landed.

Available online and in-store now.

Your autumn w**e diary starts here 🍂🍷

The nights are drawing in, our tasting evenings are back and we’ve got a seriously good autumn lined up across our five shops.

Travel through Portugal and Italy, put Bordeaux up against the world, journey down the Rhône, discover what makes cool-climate w**es so exciting, or get up close and personal with the w**emaker himself as Christiaan Coetzee of Uva Mira joins us at Kew for a very special evening.

And these are just a few of the highlights.

There are plenty more tastings, masterclasses and w**e adventures waiting in our full autumn programme.

Getting into the Bank Holiday spirit? 🥃🍸

W**e may be our first love, but there’s plenty more to taste in store this weekend…

We’ve got a brilliant selection of spirits, aperitifs and smaller-format bottles and, even better, plenty open for tasting. So if something catches your eye, just ask us for a splash.

A few ideas for your Bank Holiday drinking:

🍹 Venice Aperitivo — keep it simple with Prosecco and a splash of soda for a bright, bittersweet spritz.

🌵 Sin Gusano Agave Spirit — small-batch, characterful and very good neat, or add a little depth to your Margarita.

🍸 Citadelle Gin — floral, citrusy and beautifully aromatic. Excellent in a classic G&T, Martini or French 75.

🥃 Ron Abuelo — go for the 7 Year in a Daiquiri or Rum Old Fashioned, or pour the richer Napoleon Cask over ice and leave it at that.

🌿 Lind & Lime Gin — crisp, peppery and citrus-led; tonic and plenty of ice will do very nicely.

And that’s just a snapshot of what’s open. Spirits, aperitifs and… a water feature. We really do have everything.

Pop into your local shop, ask us for a tasting and find something new for the long weekend. Don’t forget we’re open tomorrow!

Turns out our team are artists too… 🎨🍷

There’s more to working in a w**e shop than tasting notes and recommendations.

Every month our teams get creative with chalk pens, A-boards and window displays to bring our latest ideas to life.🎨

This August they’re celebrating one of our favourite traditions…

Zero corkage is back. 👌

Choose any bottle from our shelves, settle into one of our w**e bars and we’ll waive the corkage fee throughout August.

Or simply drop in for a glass from our new August w**e list, featuring a hand-picked selection of w**es by the glass alongside our cheese and charcuterie boards, or olives of you like! 🫒

No booking needed. Just good w**e, good company and a comfy seat.
