A Taste of Galicia: Albarino & friends 🇪🇸
Just over a week ago , we were transported to the Atlantic vineyards of Rías Baixas as we explored the wines of Altos de Torona, expertly guided by the wonderful Celina Rodriguez.
We kicked off the evening with a rare treat — a traditional method sparkling Albariño that’s so good that the Galicians tend to keep it to themselves (and who can blame them?).
We tasted across the portfolio which gave us a wonderful insight into how Albariño reflects its terroir and subregion. From the lighter, herbal styles of O Rosal to the fuller-bodied, fruit-driven wines of Val do Salnés,
Altos de Torona, based in O Rosal, showed off their classic blend of Albariño, Caíño Blanco, and Loureira – known simply as “Rosal”. Rarely seen outside Spain, this aromatic blend was a highlight of the evening.
It was also really fascinating to taste single-varietal Godello and Loureira shaped by their unique microclimate near the Portuguese border
Big thanks to Celina and everyone who joined us for a delicious deep dive into Galicia’s hidden gems! 🍷✨
