Latour's 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wafts from the glass with notes of pear, mandarin oil and peach mingled with notes of struck match and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's rich and textural, with a sweet, layered core of fruit and an expansive finish. Now bottled under Diam, it should age with grace.

Michel Redde's Barre a Mine was one of Matthew Jukes' Top Fifty wines of 2024. We're so thrilled with the news!

My advice is first to track down a bottle of 2022 Pouilly-Fumé La Moynerie Michel Redde (£21.95, www. jeroboams.co.uk) to acclimatise your palate. Once you have bathed your senses in this superbly suave Sauvignon, move on to my headline wine. The 2017 vintage of Barre à Mine was the first Sauvignon Blanc to which I awarded a 20/20 score, and this 2022 vintage is every bit as exciting, with perhaps an ounce less brittle acidity. This wine was not shipped into the UK until I wrote it up five years ago, and it is now a fixture in the finest cellars in the land. Impossibly beautiful, with breathtaking purity and a unique sense of place, this wine is still the finest incarnation of this grape on earth. What I find even more incredible is that this edition of The Finest Fifty includes Reyneke’s sublime Sauvignon and this one! These are my two favourite Sauvignons in the world. There is one final wine for your delectation, but unfortunately, no one in the UK appears to be selling
it. 2022 Pouilly-Fumé Majorum Michel Redde (approx. £75.00) is the top-of-the-pile wine from this stellar producer. It is richer and more structured than Barre à Mine, making it a Chardonnay-shaped wine, and it sounds the trumpets on the palate in extraordinary fashion. Please do your best to find any and all of these wines. Whenever I open a bottle, my guests are invariable agog at the splendour on display.
