Product Recall Notice - Ordinary Bitter Smooth Batch 074 CANS 18th June 2026
We have become aware of a quality issue affecting a small number of cans of Ordinary Bitter Smooth, batch 074.
The batch passed all of its pre and post pack QC thresholds, including:
- Stable Terminal Gravity
- pH Spike (indicating an end to active fermentation)
- Forced Fermentation performance (demonstrating the maximum fermentation potential of the wort)
- Plating for the detection of wild & spoilage yeast.
However, further testing on retained stock has indicated an increase in Co2 volumes in some cans. This sort of issue is vastly exaggerated in nitro cans as by necessity, they are packaged at a higher pressure.
The issue appears to be limited to the last phase of the canning run, and therefore only a small number of cans are affected, relative to the whole run.
However, for the avoidance of doubt we are issuing a RECALL for all and any remaining can stock of Ordinary Bitter
Smooth Batch 074 cans.
The cask and keg portion of this batch are unaffected.
Please carefully dispose of any cans you have: if in doubt, submerge in a sink full of
water and open carefully. Please contact your retailer for a refund.
We are incredibly sorry that this situation has occurred, and for any inconvenience it will have caused our customers.
We pride ourselves on the quality and consistency of our offering. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to develop, improve and review our QA and QC procedures in order to ensure we are consistently delivering a quality product. Whilst we are proud of the record we have on this, we also understand that there is no place for complacency and will continue to push as hard as ever in the pursuit of great beer.
As ever, thank you for your custom, it is greatly appreciated by the whole team at Anspach & Hobday.
