This is Karuna's full-circle story.

We met Karuna earlier this year giving a speech for World Anti-Leprosy day at Sumanahalli, Bangalore. 

Karuna joined the Anugraha Girls’ Home at the age of 13. The home offers accommodation and a stable environment for girls from migrant worker / vulnerable families, such as those whose parents are affected by AIDS or leprosy, or those who would otherwise camp on roadsides as they work. Definitely not somewhere any family would want to call home, and not somewhere where a young girl should live. 

The home provides a safe, kind, and encouraging environment in which the girls who live there can thrive, attend school, and be young girls who grow up to be anything they want to be.  

Karuna was one such girl.  

After leaving Anugraha when she'd finished high-school, she trained and worked as a teacher, and is now back as a leader in Anugraha, having come full circle.

It was lovely to see how this little home for girls can transform lives and open doors for them.

The Blesséd Brew supports this and other charities in the UK and India, so every pack of coffee you buy can do good.

What happens when your day job and side hustle meet? Well, it's coffee tasting time (obvs!)

As an online teacher, it's a rare treat to meet my lovely colleagues in real life, but when we do, we always have a great time and during our latest training get together, we did a coffee tasting session too!

I gave them some of The Blesséd Brew's Kaphi as a cold brew blended with condensed milk and cardamom, but can they guess the ingredients?

Best wishes from Fathers Prakash and Prabakha, Senthil, Gomathi, and the doggies, Karim, Karishma, Jack, and Koothi, and the Blesséd Brew team in India!

In the photo, you can see, from left to right, red ripe coffee cherries, white coffee blossom, and green ripening coffee cherries to form the colours of the Indian flag. They are bunched on coffee plant leaves and sit on coffee that is naturally dried in the sun.

Monsoon rains at Bonaventure Coffee Estate, India

Dramatic skies, thunder and lightning, and lush greenery transformed by days of rain. And the smell… incredible. I wish we could bottle it!  We couldn't, sorry, so here's a video of the rain for you, instead!

We might be missing the rain here in the UK, but Bonavanthi Coffee Estate, India is certainly getting its fair share, and thank God too, because a beautiful rainfall, means ... hopefully... a beautiful coffee harvest!

It might be a bit grey and in-between the rains-y, but in Kulkumry Coffee Estate, it's time to plant out the new arabica plants.

We grow No 9 and, Chandragiri, which you can see in the photo.

The Chandragiri plant yields berries which deliver a clean and balanced cup of smooth, medium-body, mildly fruity coffee. It even has a rich brown sugar/ jaggery and chocolatey finish.

You can try it for yourself in our Bonaventure own estate single origin Indian Speciality Coffee, available on our website.

A huge thank you to the workers who are planting out 85 new Chandragiri Coffee plants and, because we don't mono-crop, 25 new pepper vines.
