We are a community farm supporting individuals to grow to their full potential through education, opportunities to develop skills and gain independence and confidence. Wellgate Community Farm began its life in 1982, set up by volunteers as a project which would encourage local participation in all aspects of the Farm’s activity. The name Wellgate is derived from the two local estates from which the first volunteers came: Chadwell Heath and Marks Gate. The Farm offers local people, schools and groups an invaluable opportunity to experience a working farm and its animals which include: ponies, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Our 1.5 acre site was granted to us under a management agreement by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is located off Collier Row Road near to City Pavilion, formerly the Roller Bowl. Initially the ground was nothing but a wasteland, overgrown with hawthorn bushes and used as a builder’s tip. Over the years the Farm has developed greatly and much has changed, although its principal aim of being a focus for community remains our driving force. Except bank holidays where it’s open until midday. Free entry, donations gratefully received.

🦙✨ MEET THE FARMILY — OUR ALPACAS! ✨🦙

Say hello to our gorgeous alpaca family: Honey, Fudge, Peanut & little Dolly! 💕🌿

Honey, Fudge and Peanut joined our Wellgate family in October last year, after being lovingly donated by Will Osprey, son of the Mayor of Havering, Sue Osprey. From the very beginning they were three very special girls, although they were certainly a little shy at first! 🥹

Over the past year, we’ve watched them blossom into their true personalities — and they couldn’t be more different! 😂

🍯 Honey — our resident greedy girl! If there’s food around, Honey will absolutely be the first to know about it.
🍫 Fudge — our naughty one! Always up to something and never far from a little bit of mischief.
🥜 Peanut — our absolute sweetheart. Gentle, affectionate and guaranteed to melt your heart. 💕

Earlier this year, the girls even headed out on several visits and alpaca walks, spreading joy wherever they went. From their wonderfully quirky personalities to their adorable little “hums”, they have a way of making everyone they meet smile. 🥰🦙

And then came a very special addition to the family… 💕

A few weeks ago, we introduced you all to Dolly, Peanut’s beautiful baby! 🌸

Dolly was named after Dolly Parton, who sadly passed away shortly before Dolly’s birth — a little name for a very special little alpaca. 💗

And she is certainly growing into a character of her own! Dolly is becoming incredibly cheeky and seems to be taking after her Auntie Fudge… 😂 She can often be spotted skipping around the pen, causing mischief and generally making sure everyone knows she’s there!

These four girls mean so much to us here at Wellgate. They’ve become such a huge part of our farm family and have brought countless smiles, cuddles, laughs and special memories to the people who visit us. 🥹💚

We feel so lucky to call these four our own. 🦙💕🌿

🌿🐐 FARMER FOR A DAY – OCTOBER HALF TERM! 🐑🍂

Looking for something a little different for the October half term? Give your child the chance to swap screens for wellies and become a Farmer for a Day at Wellgate Farm! 🌱👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

This is so much more than just a day out… it’s a chance to get stuck into farm life, spend time outdoors and experience the animals up close. 🐓🐰🐐

Yesterday the farm had its first community forest school session!🌳🦌💛

It was brilliant to get everyone together outdoors, connecting with nature, learning new skills and enjoying everything our farms green spaces have to offer. From getting stuck into activities to simply spending time together, it was a fantastic session filled with smiles, teamwork and plenty of muddy hands! 🪵🌱

We’re so proud of the community we’re building and love seeing people come together, try something new and enjoy the outdoors. 🌳✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the session so special — we can’t wait to see you all again at the next one! 💚

🌾✨ What a fantastic day at the London Harvest Festival ✨🌾

We had such a brilliant time celebrating everything that makes London’s city farms so special! 🐑🌱

Wellgate Community Farm was proud to bring along our wonderful animals and horticulture entries, and we were absolutely thrilled to win prizes across both our animal and horticulture classes! 🏆🐓🌻

From preparing our animals and produce to showing them off on the day, it was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our staff, volunteers and young farmers.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special — from the organisers and judges to our amazing team, volunteers, young farmers and everyone who came along to support us. ❤️

🚨 THE FARM WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE DAY

We’re very excited to be heading out to take part in the London City Farms Harvest Festival! 🌻🍂

It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to come together with other city farms, celebrate everything that makes community farming so special, and showcase the amazing work we do here at Wellgate . 🥰🌱

Our animals will still be receiving all their usual care while we’re away, but unfortunately we won’t be open to visitors on this day.🌳- please do not travel to the farm on this day, we appreciate all your support, however will unfortunately have to turn you away💛

We’ll be back open as usual Sunday 20th September! 💚

Slow down and unwind with a Farm Sound Bath at Wellgate Community Farm with Gemma WS Yoga and Sound 🐑🌱

Surrounded by gentle animal sounds and open sky, you’ll be guided through a calming sound experience designed to support deep relaxation and wellbeing (If it rains or too cold we have an indoor option)

Float away feeling less stressed, less anxious and less overwhelmed.

Limited spaces avaliable so booking early is recommended.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring something to lie on, our ground can be quite bumpy and hard in the summer so you might also want to bring cushions - whatever makes you comfortable so you can enjoy your experience.

Unfortunately, this event is not suitable for those in their first trimester of pregnancy or for those with epilepsy.

There is no parking at the farm for our evening events, limited parking is available on the road and we are served well by local buses.

Your visit helps us keep the farm a safe, inclusive space where people of all abilities can connect with nature, build confidence, and enjoy hands-on time with our animals. Thank you for your support.
