Another incredible benefit of Alfalfa sprouts is its ability to help lower cholesterol

One of the first studies conducted in Europe in the 1990s over a 6-week period found that the average reduction in ‘bad’ or LDL cholesterol was by 16.6% while at the same time, the ‘good’ or HDL cholesterol spiked up by 11.2%. Another study conducted in 2016 on a group of 15 people gave similar results with ‘bad’ cholesterol reducing by 18%.

This effect is attributed to its high content of saponins.

What are saponins?

Saponins are plant compounds that are known to lower cholesterol levels. They do this by binding with cholesterol and increasing its excretion, which otherwise would be absorbed by the body. This is also precisely how many cholesterol-lowering drugs work.

The human studies done so far are too small to be conclusive, but the results are definitely promising!

For some reason although, protein has always been the man’s nutrient! Muscle gain too has been glorified for men and condemned for women. So much so, that in developing countries, women consume much less protein than men.

Does your food choice on Monday affect what you’ll eat for the rest of the week?

May be!

I’ve read somewhere that starting your week off with a healthy meal can set you off on a healthier diet for the rest of the week. I decided to “make” my own baguette today. May be “making” is not the right word as I bought a part baked baguette from the supermarket and baked it in the oven for about 10 minutes. 😅

For the fillings, I used:

Hummus
Yellow peppers
Avocado
Artichokes
Basil
And added a generous amounts of Sproutd Sulforaphane

The end result is a crispy crust with a soft bread with delicious and healthy fillings inside. 😋😋

Hey! Winter is coming and you need something to warm you up. Are you still looking for a recipe that is healthy and nutritious? We got you! :) 💪

Mexican Lentil soup!🥣
Lentils are one of the best plant-based protein sources best for making healthy and yummy dishes, its mushy texture adds to the perfectness of the soup recipe. Aside from being delicious, it is suitable for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets.

INGREDIENTS
1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 white onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
1.5 tablespoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon mixed herbs
2 cups tomatoes, pureed
2 cups green lentils, washed well
1 cube vegetable stock (or 1 tbsp fresh vegetable stock concentrate)
8 cups of hot water
Salt, to taste
Topping:
2 tbsp Sproutd SULFORAPHANE
bunch of fresh coriander
1/2 avocado, sliced


METHOD
1. In a pot, add onion, carrots and celery stalks once the oil is hot. Cook for a few minutes and add garlic, cumin, smoked paprika and mixed herbs and cook for a further few minutes.
2. Next, add the tomatoes and lentils.
3. Mix in the vegetable stock cube or fresh stock and add the 8 cups of hot water. Mix well and simmer the soup for about 40 minutes. Add salt to taste.
4. After cooking, serve the soup topped with Sproutd Powered Sulforaphane, fresh coriander and avocado.

Breast Milk is sometimes referred to as liquid gold due to its invaluable benefits to a baby’s development. However, breastfeeding can also be an overwhelming experience, especially to new mothers, if they have a hard time producing milk.

We do want to let you in on a little secret on a not so common food that can help increase breast milk supply - alfalfa sprouts!

Alfalfa sprouts contain phytoestrogens, saponins and an amino acid L-canavanine which have been known to stimulate increased production of breast milk. Phytoestrogens or plant-components that resemble estrogens and can attach to their receptors, and thought to increase milk supply.
But there are still no clinical trials that support the use of alfalfa as a galactagogue but it is often used as an ingredient in lactation teas and supplements.

“Are you getting enough protein?”

Does this question sound familiar? It is probably the most common myth about being on a plant-based diet! The current international Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 g per kg of body weight and it is still attainable even if you are on a plant-based diet.
Common plant-based protein sources include tofu, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Plus, eating more plant-based foods have been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes by around 23% based on a recent Harvard University study conducted on more than 300,000 adults.

Thinking of an easy smoothie breakfast to start your day? :D
This recipe is perfect for a fitness enthusiast. You just need a few ingredients to make this one, and using our Sprout powered PROTEIN + IRON is a great choice. The protein per serving is equivalent to 0.7 cups of cooked quinoa just from our PROTEIN+IRON alone!

What you will need:
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup oats
3 tbsp Sproutd PROTEIN + IRON cup
1/2 tsp ginger powder
300 ml oat milk

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth
2. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
