We honestly believe we make the best quality fresh pasta you can find. Our passion for pasta is highlighted throughout our rich history. As Ugo Foods, we’ve been supplying our delicious fresh pasta and noodles to some of the UK’s top retailers, leading chefs and quality delicatessens since 1929. That makes us, by some distance, the first fresh pasta maker to operate in the UK. It all started when Luigi Ugo left his home in Tortona, Italy in 1921, aged just 14 years old, and came to London to begin work in a grocery shop. With no wages, just board, lodgings and a daily supply of flour and eggs, he made fresh pasta by hand and was soon selling it to local hotels and restaurants. His hard work paid off, demand from customers grew and in 1929 he opened his first shop in Gerrard St, Soho where he made fresh pasta on-site (in the shop window!). He was always looking for new ideas and added gnocchi to the range in 1932 – the first to do so in the UK. Since then his son and, later on, his grandson have taken over the reins and continued this pioneering spirit, introducing organic pasta products in 1967 for the Cranks Organic Café in Marshall St London and, more recently, wheat-free variants. Besides supplying the most fantastic filled and unfilled pasta, Luigi Ugo had a side-line in making fresh noodles & dumplings for the oriental community which was just beginning to lay down roots in Central London. His offerings were so successful that, during the 1930s and 1940s, a number of noodle bars sprang up around his shop in Gerrard St. We now know this area as Chinatown… and all thanks to an Italian! Today we continue to make pasta with pride and passion, marrying traditional skills with modern technology. We aim to produce the finest pasta available and everyone who works at Ugo Foods shares this passion for quality. We honestly believe we succeed in this aim and we’re delighted that other experts think so too – we have dozen of awards dating from 1935 to the present day. We’ve come from humble beginnings but, through a combination of hard work, genuine knowledge & expertise and our wonderful heritage, we have gained an enviable reputation for the finest fresh pasta and gourmet range of recipes that have stood the test of time.
