For decades, we have been searching for ways to enjoy movies in the comfort of our own homes. ๐ฟ๐ฌ In this three part series, we explore the past of home cinema, the most famous physical media formats, and current streaming trends. ๐บโณ๐
The VHS (Video Home System) format spread worldwide in the late 1970s and was considered a revolutionary innovation in home entertainment at the time. ๐๐ฅ Although magnetic tape playback was practical, it had the disadvantage that picture and sound quality gradually deteriorated with continuous use โ not to mention the inconvenience of rewinding. โช Still, it had a very personal, intimate feel that brings back many pleasant memories even today. โค๏ธ๐ญ
Although video cassettes were slowly replaced by DVDs with the arrival of the new millennium, the production of VHS players officially ended only in 2016. ๐ฟ๐
