June is here, and summer has finally arrived in London! ☀️

In our previous post, we mentioned wanting to highlight Malaysian flavours – especially the tastes I’ve missed the most – and bring them into our easy-to-enjoy bao buns.

Who doesn’t love a bao bun? But our version is lightly toasted for a different texture that pairs perfectly with the fillings.

Our crowd-pleaser?
🥢 Glass Char Siu

Then we’ll be serving:
🍗 Spiced Fried Chicken
🥕 Lor Bak Gao (fried panko radish cake)

And for the sweet version:
🧈🥥 Kaya–Burnt Butter Bao Buns

Our SUMMER menu is LIVE !

Summer is heating up, and we’re making BBQ easy — Malaysian style.

This is our first batch of the summer menu.
• Char Kway Teow remains our hero dish

First up, my personal favourite:
• Glass Char Siu — glossy, caramelized glaze that pairs perfectly with our bao.
(Vegetarian & vegan options available.)
• Next, we’re rolling out spice-forward flavours you won’t forget.
• And summer isn’t complete without Malaysia’s favorite drink — so Teh Tarik is back, brewed with Sri Lanka’s Ceylon black tea.
• Pair it with our classic Pandan-Kaya Chiffon Cake.

Authentic Malaysian flavours stuffed into bao buns (baked or steamed) — expect bold, textured, and colourful. That’s what makes Malaysian food so mesmerising.

Grilled to perfection, this otak is a must-try Malaysia street snack. Wrapped in fragrant coconut leaves, the spiced fish paste is charred over open flames, delivering a smoky, tender bite that melts in your mouth. The perfect balance of creamy coconut milk, bold lemongrass, and chili—slightly crisp on the outside, silky inside. Whether you’re hunting for authentic grilled otak otak at a night market or craving traditional street food Malaysia, this fire-kissed delicacy is pure comfort on a stick.

Smoke, fire, and a legacy that spans generations — meet Char Kway Teow, the undisputed king of Malaysian noodles.

Last year, we found ourselves back in Penang for a family gathering. But we didn’t just attend the event — we seized the chance to learn from a few legends. One stall, in particular, holds our hearts. Tucked away on Cecil Street — known to locals as Jalan Tujuh (Seventh Street), part of Penang’s numbered grid — sits our favourite Char Kway Teow master.

In this video, the legend himself demonstrates his craft. High flame, relentless heat — all in pursuit of that elusive wok hei, the “breath of the wok.” It’s that charred, smoky essence that only live fire can breathe into noodles. One by one, ingredients join the dance: slick rice noodles, sweet Chinese sausage, plump cockles, fresh bean sprouts, all bound by dark soy and lard. Each addition is timed, layered, respected.

This is not a dish you rush — not if you want it right. It takes patience. It takes love. And it takes a quiet belief that some things are worth preserving.

Char Kway Teow isn’t just food. It’s heritage. UNESCO recognises it. The BBC crowned it the “king of noodles.” But here, on a modest street in Penang, it’s simply — perfection.

Being from Penang, Char Kway Teow is in our blood. It’s the taste of home we dreamed of sharing. When we started serving our community in Southwest London at , we knew this had to be our hero dish. It was our way of bringing a piece of home to our community here. We’re so proud to see it become a crowd favourite. Our customers’ love for it has been incredible, and it means the world to be able to share this heritage, one plate at a time.

Another round of celebration – baby’s 1st birthday!

In (Straits Chinese) and Malaysian households, celebrations are never complete without heritage kuih. These traditional delights are often made with tapioca, glutinous rice, and fruits that carry auspicious meanings. For example, pineapple tarts symbolise prosperity, progress, and good health.

For this order, we prepared:

💚Onde Onde – Glutinous rice balls infused with pandan, filled with bursting Gula Melaka (palm sugar from Malacca, Malaysia). Floral sweet with dark caramel notes, boiled then coated in fresh shredded coconut.

💗Red Pink Kuih Lapis – “Lapis” means layers. Here, 9 layers representing progress, growth, and dreams coming true.

🍍 Pineapple Tarts – Presented as modern open-faced tartlets. Pineapple always associated with prosperity.

Malaysian & Singaporean Wedding Catering ❤️

Last weekend, we catered a grand wedding. A wedding, one filled with laughter, love and the kind of hunger that only Malaysian street food can satisfy.

The venue was stunning. It was the hosts and their guests who made the day unforgettable warm, friendly and genuinely excited to eat.

The event ran from 12pm to 5pm. As soon as we opened, the first guests made a beeline for our Ikan Bakar - fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves, grilled to smoky perfection and served with our homemade tangy sambal. Right next to it, the vegan Mee Siam disappeared fast. Within minutes, we heard the first “wow, this is superb”.

For two hours straight, we fired up the wok and cooked over 70 plus plates of Char Kway Teow; on the spot with smoke rising and crowds gathering around us. The queue grew long. They waited, they watched, they smiled and we chitchat. Because everyone knows, delicious food is always worth the wait. Some guests even called for 3 plates, worried they could not get this Char Kway Teow else where.

We also prepared a spread of traditional kuih - Onde onde bursting with gula Melaka, Seri Muka and beautifully designed Kuih Lapis. For something refreshing, we served canapé style Fruit Rojak, where the Red Jambu (Water Rose Apple) stole the show alongside green mango and pineapple, supplies fresh by because we only use quality fresh fruits.

By the end of the day, we had served guests from the UK, US, Singapore and Malaysia. Every plate, every smile, every “sedap” reminded us why we love what we do. Each event, especially one for 150 guests, teaches us something new. And every time, we walk away grateful and already dreaming of the next one. We didn’t have time to take enough photos to show you. We were too busy serving 😁.

Spring and summer wedding season is here. If you are planning a celebration, big or small, we want to treat your guests to authentic Malaysian and Singaporean star food, let’s talk.

We’d love to cook for you.
