HOLIDAY FOOD 😍
This summer, I was fortunate to explore 3 amazing places and I’d love to share some of my food adventures!
I visited Swiss alps, lake Baikal - the deepest lake in the world, and my home country Latvia 🇱🇻
✔️ Switzerland. The food scene is known for being pricy, and the restaurant offer isn’t always the most delicious, with lots of charcuterie, cheese plates, pickles, potatoes. But after a long hike, these hearty dishes can really recharge you. However, we were there for stunning landscapes more than the cuisine☺️ we mostly cooked at home, which turned out to be the best decision - our group’s talented female chefs, , worked their magic in the kitchen🪄
✔️ Irkutsk and lake Baikal. I didn’t have high expectations, but the food completely blew me away! The quality, presentation and flavour were all top - notch - they truly care about what comes out of the kitchen 👌 I had the best crab soup of my life, a dish called “saguday”, where local fish omul is placed in extremely salty water for 20 sec, cut into pieces, served with onions and pepper, It’s kind of local ceviche 😃
I also enjoyed some of the fantastic desserts featuring pine nuts and cowberries - a winning combination of Siberia region 👌
One standout place in Olkhon island was Lamu restaurant, which offered incredibly creative dishes likes strawberry gazpacho, mimosa salad, dumplings with local omul fish and soured cream ice cream. We sampled almost every dish on the menu and they were all fantastic. Bravo!
✔️ Latvia. Known for its incredible pastries and smoked fish, Latvia always delivers an amazing culinary experience. Whether it’s rye fried garlic bread with cheesy sauce from , smoked eel pate at , traditional Latvian food and huge portions at , or my pick for the best Georgian food in Latvia at (, you must visit and try this 😍), it’s always a treat!
What a summer it has been 🥰
Do you keep track of your food discoveries when you are on holiday? Please share them 🙏 experiencing food is such an important way to connect with a country’s culture and traditions 🫶
