Latin American Flavours Hidden Inside a Borehamwood Pub

Back in my hometown for this one, visiting Raquel’s Kitchen, tucked away inside The Pick and Shovel.

I started with a hefty cheese and spinach empanada, packed with a hot, creamy filling and served with pink sauce. Then came the Dominican-style fried chicken - two chunky drumsticks and a thigh, simply dusted in seasoned flour and fried until the skin almost shattered.

Tender chicken, plenty of black pepper, a hint of garlic and one seriously satisfying crunch.

A Hidden Gem Italian Patisserie Making Incredible Fruit-Shaped Cakes

My daughter told me about Cakes Re-Volution in Kempston, Bedfordshire, so we pre-ordered a selection of their fruit-shaped cakes and headed over to try them.

Everything is made right there in the shop, and they taste every bit as good as they look. We tried pistachio, mango, fig, apple, blueberry, pear and vanilla. The fig was my personal favourite, but the pear and vanilla were loved by all of us.

We also tried their sandwiches and tiny filled cornettos, with the porchetta sandwich being another highlight.
A genuine hidden gem and a quadruple thumbs up from the whole family 👍👍👍👍

Trying an Authentic Cypriot Bakery in London 🇨🇾

Raphael’s Bakery has been on my list for ages, and I finally got down there to try a few Cypriot favourites.

The sandwich was loaded, the koubes were always going to be ordered, and the syrupy, cinnamon-heavy tahinopita completely changed my opinion of it.

Which would you be trying first?

Sri Lankan Breakfast with a lake view in Victoria Park

I went to Pavilion Cafe in Bethnal Green for their Sri Lankan breakfast and it turned out to be a lovely little start to the day. Sunshine, coffee, ducks on the lake and a plate full of dal, mallung, potato curry, sambol, red rice and paratha.

Nothing too flashy, just a really nice spot, good food and the kind of morning that clears your head a bit.

Would you order this, or are you sticking with coffee and pastries?

I Tried Zula’s Limited Edition Chimi Burger 🍔

I headed to Zula Burger in Marble Arch to see what all the fuss was about. The Chimi Burger had a lot going on, but it all worked together really well. The fries were spot on and the San Sebastian cheesecake was proper tasty too.

Noodle Inn’s New Covent Garden Restaurant 🍜🔥

I checked out the newest Noodle Inn branch in Covent Garden and worked my way through okra salad, scallion oil wontons, chicken popcorn, prawn toast and their famous Oil Spill Biang Biang Noodles with braised beef rib.
The chicken popcorn was dangerously addictive, but those noodles stole the show. Thick, chewy hand-pulled noodles coated in fragrant garlic chilli oil with fall-apart beef rib. Proper comfort food.
Would you tackle that giant beef rib?

Uyghur Cuisine in the heart of Oxford Circus

I was Invited to Karamay just off Regent Street for a full Uyghur feast and honestly… this cuisine deserves way more attention.

From flaky beef samsa and peppery manti dumplings to hand-pulled noodles and unbelievably good crispy lamb ribs, every dish was packed with flavour.
