TOO MANY TREASURES OVER TWO DAYS. For the last two days, myself and some architects from Cambridge have been going through the private archives to try and help piece together the history of the building, I think we just about found everything they were after, the most entertaining; the archeology from Melford Hall, which turned out to just be bullet shells from after the war, a bit disappointing for all, for me some of the diaries from the boats (they weren’t on the list) but you can literally spend hours hunting and find something completely different

We are seeking a Senior Curator (maternity cover) for a 12 month contract leading on the delivery of the ‘Gainsborough at Home’ exhibition and broader season programme.

💷 Salary: £30,192 pa for 4 days per week (£37,740 FTE)
🕓 Hours: Part-time (28 hours per week)

This village is truly amazing because of its volunteers, there is almost not one area of the village that is not served by these wonderful collections of people, from volunteer deacons, and flower ladies at the church, amazingly patient trustees of the Almshouse, my go to pair at the Old school, the scores of volunteers at Melford Hall who take great pride in looking after and caring for our possessions and telling our stories, the gentlemen who help me raise marquees for the village fete, the women’s institute committee who keep me on track, the parents who will quiet happily stand stopping traffic for remembrance parade, the team that make the village look truly beautiful for Melford in Bloom, those that run the parish magazine and forgive me for my typos. If I have forgotten you I am sorry, but from me to you all THANK YOU.

LEESTOCK 2026! LeeStock has a special place in our hearts here in Melford. I have been with William 11 years and only missed 2, with very good reason, honeymoon and Edward had just been born. To all those who organise this fabulous village event, well done, this year is going to be emotional for all and also incredibly hot! but as always you will do all proud. There have been so many fabulous times across the years and we cannot wait to make more. Have a fabulous weekend all, and if you know me, you know I can’t wait to see let’s have the best weekend!

LETS HOPE THE CHILDREN NEVER FIND THE CELLAR! Well technically there are 3 cellars here at Melford Hall and this one sits under the South Wing end closest to the Park. Whilst it has the worst trap door to get into it, once down, there is the most amazing brickwork floor, all laid to falls to allow the hung game and meat juice fall to a central drain, there was also a staircase that lead to the servants kitchen, now the drawing room. It’s a wonderful treasure trove of brickwork detailing, wand timber construction

WHO LIVES IN A HOUSE WITH A HAHA?!? Christmas special had me in stitches last night as the word Haha was used far to many times, and if you ever visit the Hall when I am with the children you will know I spend my life saying ‘get out the haha’ I am looking forward to opening season already when everyone will know finally what I’m talking about! if I’m honest there were actually quiet a few funny moments throughout the programme that made me chuckle for my life now!
