We source our seasonal produce from a network of approximately twenty local Lincolnshire farmers and growers, supplementing this produce from all over the UK a

nd world (but only where necessary) via large commercial import specialists. We are incredibly proud to have worked with many of our suppliers for a number of decades and are always on the lookout for local growers to add to the seasonal product lines.

A LINCOLNSHIRE LIFE

Whilst we are on the theme of the Lincolnshire Show and farming I wanted to share some pictures that were given to me 10/15 years ago by Richard Drinkel (the father of Toby who grows the Casablanca potatoes).

They are taken across the road from us here at Shaw’s at The Grange in the 1940s. They show blackcurrant picking, the static pea viners, and wheat fields.

Richard’s Grandfather was a Director of United Canners Ltd who owned the Grange at the time and Richard told me, “They were based in Boston, but the canning factory was in Charles St Louth where the old Lin Pac factory was. A farm foreman lived in the Grange called Charlie Wood. Grandfather managed the farm.”

I hope you enjoy the photographs. If you have any pictures of farming through the ages in and around Alvingham you’d like to share feel free to bring them into the shop!
