This is for Dolly...

My mum used to sing Dolly songs at the top of her voice, so hearing the news brought back a lot of memories.

We wanted to do something small and lovely for her.

So we named her The Dolly Parton Rose. 🌹 and planted it in our Memorial Rose Gardens over on Stream Street.

A week ago we wrote about The Gazette finally finding its home on Stream Street.

This week, it felt only right to write about another small milestone.

The first shop has officially opened its doors.

It wasn't a grand ceremony. Just a ribbon, a few kind words from the Mayor, plenty of applause and, naturally, a few complimentary gin and tonics afterwards. Yet it somehow felt like one of those moments that quietly changes a place.

Sometimes it's only afterwards that you realise something has stopped feeling like an idea and started feeling real.

A small but satisfying change to Stream Street: the new chalkboard goes up and the whole corner feels more settled.

There is a small difference between selling to someone and welcoming them in. This little chalkboard is there to remind us which side of that line we want to stay on.
