Just hefted 12 hives in one apiary.
The only one that was light and needed fondant was the one with an open mesh floor.
All the rest are still heavy and are on solid floors.

Had a vmd survey last summer as part of their audit of nbu.

They were looking for amitraz residues.

Following the recent Bee Health Advisory Forum meeting, we wish to inform you of a significant change announced by DEFRA regarding spring queen trapping activities. DEFRA has confirmed that the National Bee Unit (NBU) will no longer be permitted to participate in spring queen trapping from 2026 onwards. This represents a notable shift from previous seasons, where NBU support played an important role in early-season monitoring and mitigation efforts.

As many of you are aware, several late-season nests in 2025 (see attached maps) are expected to have produced viable queens, meaning that areas within 5km around those nests will be considered high-risk and face increased pressure in the coming spring. Early detection and coordinated response from local beekeepers, YLAH teams, and regional associations will therefore be more critical than ever.

We will continue to work closely with local coordinators and stakeholders to provide guidance, share best practice, and ensure that community-led monitoring remains as effective as possible. Further updates and recommendations for spring actions will follow shortly.
