Scrumptious by name....

This is one of those slightly unusual early apple varieties that you can only really get from from those in the know. It definitley has a load more flavour than a lot of modern early varieties, reflecting its uncertain heritage: It's sweet but with a nice balance of acidity and occasionally a delicate aniseed flavour suggesting that alongside the Golden Delicious and Worcester Pearmain there might be a bit of Ellisons Orange in the mix.

Enjoy the crunch and let us know what you think of them.

Its apple time again!

The growers are all saying that this won't be a bumper apple harvest like last year. However, new varieties are appearing every week. Look at these beautiful Red Windsors from Herefordshire.

Red Windsor is also known as Sweet Lillibert after a nation-wide naming competition across UK schools. It was bred in Worcestershire in the 1980's from a Cox’s Orange Pippin / Duchess of Oldenburg cross.

Described as being richly aromatic and sweet with a honeyed flavour but with a distinct tangy kick.

Farmer Ben on Radio 4 this morning talking the effects of the drought on farmers.

I Thought this was a good illustration of how tough things are: these beautiful organic red lettuces that Ben has grown would normally arrive to us as large single lettuces but because of their smaller size he has doubled them up.

That's great for us and for our customers but for Ben that's a 50% price cut.

Fingers crossed for rain soon, for Ben and all the other growers who work so hard to produce our food.

🥕 Just a thought... 🥕

Maybe organic carrots should just be called "carrots"... and the others should be called "chemical carrots." 🤔🌱

When you choose organic, you're choosing food grown with nature in mind – supporting healthy soils, biodiversity and a more sustainable way of farming. And, of course, you're getting delicious, fresh produce too.

Oooo look at what we have this morning:

2 types of seeded focaccia, english muffins, and cinnamon rolls.

All baked locally using organic flour by the lovely people at Small Bakery in Orleton.

Just one request, please don't buy all the cinnamon rolls, they are my favourite!

Fancy trying some Agretti Spaghetti?

Its not often we get to try out a monks beard, but Agretti (or barba di frate) has arrived at Myriad.

If you don't know what it is (& we didn't either), Agretti, also known as Saltwort or Salsola, is a tender vegetable with fine delicate leaves that look a little bit like the fronds of asparagus. Agretti is better known in Italy where it's eaten wilted or sauted, spinkled with olive oil and lemon juice and eaten with pancetta or seafood.

But the best bit is its flavour. You can eat Agretti raw as part of a salad, or why not try it lightly steamed and stirred into pasta. It's a taste best described as a "chivey samphire" in that it is slightly salty with a faintly bitter edge....but of course, like a lot of unusual vegetables it doesnt quite taste like anything else except itself.

Another new flavour from the team at Linley Hall.

Let us know what you think.
