The CORE Pantry

As you may have seen we have been lucky enough to receive funding to continue our Pantry to Plate project.

We are going to run it slightly differently to last time as the brilliant Jinny () is going to be attending the pantry to create some recipes using whatever we have a surplus of that day - Ready, Steady, Cook style.

It's National Volunteers week and time to just take a moment to appreciate all the brilliant volunteers in the The CORE Pantry.

I (Fabienne here) am a member of staff and we have a driver at the weekends but otherwise all the work of the pantry is undertaken by our volunteers. We absolutely could not run the pantry without our fabulous team.

We have over 40 volunteers who donate over 300 hours each month to ensure the food is collected, checked, sorted and put on the shelves. Along with the front of house teams who also bring warmth and community to the pantry.

We have a lovely time in the pantry both with other volunteers and with our members.

A huge thank you to all the team for all they do x

What a wonderful few weeks it’s been for some of our amazing volunteers! 💙

Steve Saunders, who many of you will recognise from our Wednesday Pantry sessions, is Chair of Trustees for The Upton Youth and Community Project, the charity behind the Pantry. At the recent Civic Prayer Breakfast at St Michael’s Church in Macclesfield, Steve received a very well deserved High Sheriff’s Award in recognition of his many years of dedication and service to the project. Congratulations, Steve! 👏

Meanwhile, one of our Thursday volunteers, Wendy, was invited to the beautiful Grosvenor Eaton Estate for a special event hosted by Cheshire Community Foundation. While there, she was delighted to learn that The Upton Youth and Community Project had been named Highly Commended in the Poverty and Deprivation category at the President’s Awards. 🎉

The pantry is all packed away for Easter. We are off next week but back again on the 15th.

Thank you to the brilliant volunteers who not only ran the pantry as normal this week but also gave out 5 extra items to members and Easter eggs too.
