🐝🌸 Covered in pollen and loving every second of it!

I took these photos today and had to share them.

This little worker was absolutely covered in pollen while working her way around the flowers of Nigella — Love-in-a-Mist. You can see the pollen dusting her body as she moves from flower to flower. 🐝💛

It’s moments like this that remind me why I love creating a garden for the bees.

We often think about honey bees in terms of honey and the hive, but every single foraging trip starts out here — with a bee visiting flowers, collecting pollen and nectar, and quietly doing her part to keep the colony going.

And look at the amount of pollen she’s picked up! 😍

The garden doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to flower. 🌱🌸🐝

A few flowers can become a little feeding station for an entire world of pollinators.

🐝 New Queens Born Today 👑

One of the best moments in beekeeping — watching new queens emerge.

These girls were grafted just over two weeks ago, carefully raised, and today they’ve made it out into the world. Each one has the potential to become the heart of a new colony.

There’s something special about this stage — they start off small, a bit unsure, and within days they’ll be strong, confident, and ready to lead.

Tomorrow they’ll be heading into mating nucs where, if all goes well, they’ll mate and begin laying — the start of the next generation.

It’s a process that takes time, patience, and a bit of luck… but days like this make it all worth it.

I had the privilege of grafting my first AMM (Apis mellifera mellifera) queens for the 2026 season today 🐝👑

Still getting the hang of it — steady hands, good light, and plenty of patience required — but there’s something special about working this closely with the bees and shaping the next generation of the apiary.

Every tiny larva I graft today has the potential to become a strong, resilient queen, carrying forward the traits I’m selecting for.

A proper milestone moment, and the start of what I hope will be a great season ahead.

A calm, steady hand, a keen eye, and a deep respect for the colony — today marks the beginning of a new generation of carefully selected queens. Each larva chosen represents the traits we value most: resilience, temperament, and strength.

From the smallest beginnings come the leaders of the hive.

Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes of the grafting process — where the future of the apiary is shaped, one cell at a time.
