The fields are taking on their golden hues, the mornings are getting cooler and our sheep are happily grazing their way through the changing season.

There’s something wonderfully peaceful about seeing them dotted across the fields on a crisp autumn morning.

Autumn adventures with the goats!

If there’s one thing our goats love, it’s having something new to investigate — and autumn certainly gives them plenty to explore!

Fallen leaves, cooler breezes and changing hedgerows make this a wonderful time of year to be out and about. Though, of course, they’re still finding plenty of mischief along the way!

🍂 THE MUD IS COMING… and we’re trying to get ready for it! 😂🌧️

You might think autumn at the farm is all about beautiful golden leaves, crisp mornings and cosy animals… but behind the scenes, we’re in full-on “GET THE FARM READY FOR WINTER” mode!

Because we all know what’s coming…

🌧️ Rain
🌧️ More rain
🌧️ Even more rain
🫣 And then… THE MUD!

So, we’ve been busy:

Making and improving paths so hopefully we can keep everyone out of the deepest mud and make getting around the farm easier.

Moving and changing enclosures to make sure our animals have safe, suitable spaces as the weather changes.

Checking all the fences, gates and animal areas because the last thing we need is an adventurous pig, goat or donkey deciding to go for a winter wander! 😂

Getting shelters ready so everyone has somewhere warm, dry and protected when the weather turns nasty.

Autumn brings plenty of these down from the trees, but did you know they can be dangerous to some of our animals if eaten? So we’re busy moving and clearing them from animal areas and keeping a close eye on where they’re falling. What looks like a tasty little autumn snack to an animal can actually make them very poorly.

Tidying, clearing and cleaning areas around the farm and getting rid of anything that could become a problem in bad weather.

Preparing for the darker evenings and making sure our access and working areas are safe.

Keeping on top of leaves, branches and autumn debris before the wind decides to rearrange the farm for us!

And probably the biggest job of all…

Trying to keep the mud under control!

We’re not promising miracles though. This is still a farm. There WILL be mud. There WILL be muddy boots. And there WILL probably be someone who manages to get mud somewhere we didn’t even know was possible. 😂😂

But all jokes aside, there’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make sure the farm is safe, accessible and ready for the colder months — and that our animals are happy, healthy and well cared for whatever the weather throws at us.

So if you visit us over the coming months…

Bring your wellies. 👢
Bring your waterproofs. 🌧️
And leave your clean shoes at home! 😂

Autumn is arriving at the pig pen!

The days are getting shorter, the mornings are feeling cooler, and our pigs are making the most of every muddy moment! There’s nothing quite like an autumn day spent rooting, exploring and enjoying the changing season.

As the leaves turn golden, the pigs are certainly keeping us entertained!
