Grazed grass quality can shift quickly with changing weather☀️🌧️

Changes in dry matter, sugars and digestible fibre content can affect intakes, rumen function and performance.

Regular grass monitoring, careful grazing management and targeted supplementation can all help support digestive stability.

Levucell SC, the rumen-specific live yeast, helps optimise the rumen environment so your cows are more resilient when grazing conditions change.

Once the clamp is opened, oxygen can quickly wake up yeasts and moulds, leading to heating, spoilage and dry matter losses.

Using a crop- and condition-specific inoculant, such as Magniva, can help improve aerobic stability at feed-out, reducing the risk of heating and helping protect the nutrients, energy and dry matter you worked hard to preserve.

Cooler, more stable silage means more of the clamp ends up in the ration, not lost to spoilage.

After a great couple of days at Holstein UK event, Emma shared her thoughts on being part of such a positive and well-run event.

Emma says: “It was lovely meeting people who shared stories and ideas, celebrating the hard work that goes into breeding these cows for successful production.

“The event showed two sides of farming where we discussed real issues and frustrations on the future of our sector with the worries of the rising cost of production and how we may become resilient against this. But this didn’t dampen the event it was a delight to see farmers coming together. “

Thanks again to all the organisers, including Holstein UK, for putting the event on today and to all the farms involved.

With maize growth under pressure in northern parts of the UK, now is one of the final opportunities to review forage options if you’re also experiencing this.

Wholecrop cereals can help plug this gap, supporting forage stocks, adding valuable energy to the ration.

Heat stress has a big impact on cow health, disrupting the rumen’s microbial balance, metabolism and barrier function leading to decreased milk production and increased body condition loss.

To help support cow health and performance, we recommend including a double dose of the rumen-specific live yeast Levucell SC in your ration when temperature and humidity rise above THI 62.

Heat stress becomes a major concern. Cattle change behavior to alleviate stress, which disrupts digestion, increases inflammation, and reduces performance.

Two crops in the field can mean two sets of challenges in the clamp.

Companion cropping can add flexibility to dairy forage systems, but mixed crops don’t always dry, mature or ferment at the same rate.

Good clamp management and a crop-specific inoculant, such as Magniva Platinum Wholecrop, can help protect feed value.
