A TASTE OF THE UK HOP HARVEST

Simon Parker of Instone Court, a member of Charles Faram Farms, sent us this brilliant footage of Jester® making its way through the picking machine earlier this week. 🌿

Jester® is a UK hop variety developed through the Charles Faram Hop Development Programme, and seeing it come off the bine and through the picking process is always a great sight.

Jester® has strong characteristics as a new-wave UK variety with Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, and Resinous aromas. Check out the comments for the link to more information.

Madison has been visiting hop growers, and the Karma® yards are looking fantastic!

The established Karma® plants are almost ready for harvest, with picking expected to begin in just 7–12 days. Even more exciting, we're working with a brewery local to Yakima (WA) to produce a fresh hop Karma® b**r for the Fresh Hop Ale Festival.

The first-year (baby) Karma® plants have also exceeded expectations, producing an incredible number of large cones. It's amazing to see such strong early growth, especially when compared with other first-year varieties that may not even be harvested this season.

It's another exciting milestone for our international Hop Development Programme.

Join us at Jimmy Barratt's hop farm in Herefordshire, where the hops are really starting to come into their own.

With the summer solstice now behind us, most hop varieties will be reaching the top of the wirework and will now be focusing on lateral growth!

Jimmy's photos showcase a mix of second-year CF321, second-year Harlequin® and mature Harlequin® plants. It's a great comparison, as hop plant yields typically increase as they mature, with full yields generally expected from plants that are three years old or older.

🌱 Grower Update

You join us at Townend Farm in Herefordshire, walking around the Mystic™ hop yards.

On the left we see virus-free Mystic™ plants, planted last year and performing well. On the right is the original block, planted in 2016.
Historically, Mystic™ has experienced reduced yields, which we suspect is due to virus burden. By introducing virus-free plants, we're hoping to increase yields, making this unique variety more viable for our growers and continue to deliver sell-out aromas of blackcurrant, orange and passion fruit.

We will be monitoring the plants throughout the growing season and look forward to evaluating their aroma at harvest to ensure the virus-free plants remain true to type.
