We fully support this as it goes some way to helping cider drinkers understand what’s in their drink 👍🏻

Countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Finland allow products with as little as 15% apple juice to be legally sold as cider 😥

The rest of the beverage is composed of water, glucose syrups, and flavorings!! The UK (which is no longer in the EU but remains Europe's largest market) requires a minimum of 35% juice 😱

Conversely France & Spain protect cider as a premium product. In France, cider must be made 100% from apple juice (with at least 50% fresh juice, forbidding heavy dilution). Spain has similarly strict rules 🥳

That means you could be paying good money for over half of your pint to be water, sugar and other flavours/additives depending on which brand you choose to drink - including the big British ones…😡

At Dunham Apples we believe cider should be 100% apple juice-based and stand alongside our UK artisan cider producers to help British consumers better understand what Cider TRULY is, and what they are being sold through mass marketing.

Drink this other stuff by all means, but don’t have the cheek to call it cider 🥴 because really, it isn’t proper. And up here we do things proper.

Ever wondered how much actual apple is in your favourite pint of cider? 🍎 CAMRA is leading the charge to raise the minimum juice requirement, arguing that what we're drinking should be the real deal, not just sugar water.

Do you agree it's time for a change? 👇

An important update from Dunham Apples 🍎

Unfortunately, due to the prolonged warm weather and drought this year, we’ve made the very difficult decision not to run the Apple Festival in 2026.

The lack of rain has put huge stress on the trees and our crop has reduced dramatically. There simply isn’t enough fruit, or enough fruit of the right size, to run the festival properly.

The apples we do have now need to go towards producing cider and apple juice stock to help keep the Apple Barn supplied until next year’s harvest.

Some of you may remember that we also suffered a major pumpkin crop failure a few years ago. Sadly, this is the reality of farming. You can put everything into a crop, but sometimes the weather has other ideas.

We really hope the Apple Festival will return next year. Please sign up to the newsletter on our website to be the first to hear.

The Apple Barn is still open every weekend, serving cider, apple juice, tea, coffee, cake and pizzas, so please do keep coming down and supporting us.

Chris will also begin commercial apple pressing from the first weekend in September, and you’re very welcome to come along, watch and ask questions.

And please save the date for our Wassail on Saturday 9th January 2027 🔥🍎

It’s been a really difficult year for farms and growers, so please support your local farmers wherever you can.

If you could share this post, it would mean a lot to us and really helps get the word out.

Thank you for continuing to support Dunham Apples ❤️

We are 5!! Celebrating our 5th Apple Barn Anniversary today with Party in the Orchard 2026 🥳

Thank you to all our family, friends, neighbours and customers who have supported us on our journey over that time to bring top notch apple juice and ciders to you all.

Sitting in the orchard back in 2020 during lockdown, we had an idea to share the beautiful space we have here at Boundary Farm as a backdrop to showcase the products. And so began the Apple Barn…

Five years on, we still have to pinch ourselves that you all seem to find a little bit of your ‘happy’ here too - and love seeing our customers become friends and part of the community that is growing up alongside the orchards.

You all know by now that farmers do it for the love, never the money. We hope that shines through into the next 5 and beyond 🫶🏻
