Every spice or blend that I discover provides inspiration for my little business. Because life’s too short for bland food. 🔥

A CURRY NIGHT IN FRANCE 🇫🇷🍛
A few days ago I shared my rather exciting find from a Moroccan supermarket here in France — a Madras curry spice blend — and said I was going to have a go at making a curry in our little French mobile home.
Well… voilà! 👇🍛

And I have to say, it did the job rather nicely! 😋
This was a very mild, family-friendly curry — think old-school 80s curry, somewhere between chip-shop curry sauce and a butter chicken. Nothing too fiery, just lovely, comforting, warming and exactly what we fancied for a cosy night in.

Even better, we managed to pick up a few little Indian sundries at a market in Lalinde, which was a rather unexpected bonus. A few extras on the table, some rice, a splash of chilli for those who wanted it… and suddenly our little mobile home felt a bit like an Indian restaurant! 😂
And as for the photos…

📸 The photographer has now been sacked. 😂
I mean, the curry was considerably better than the photography suggests!

And my little helper? Well… let’s just say his enthusiasm for cooking didn’t quite match mine! 😂 He was present, technically involved, and definitely more interested in the eating part of the process. 😜

But that’s what holidays are all about — making do with what you find, cooking together (or at least attempting to!), and enjoying a good meal with family.

🌶️ I swear I can sniff spices out wherever I am! 😂
France— a country I’d normally associate with beautiful food, fresh ingredients and wonderfully simple flavours — and somehow I’ve STILL managed to find myself standing in the spice aisle of a Moroccan supermarket. 🤣

Of course, I couldn’t just walk past… and look what I found: Madras curry mix! 🌶️🔥

So now, here we are on our campsite with only our little mobile home kitchen, a bag of Madras blend and absolutely no proper curry recipe or plan whatsoever.
Which can only mean one thing…
An improvised, completely made-up holiday curry is happening! 🍛

The blend itself is packed with coriander, turmeric, mustard, fenugreek, cumin, garlic, fennel, cloves, chilli and curry powder — so I’ve got plenty to work with.
I love a challenge. 😍

Let’s see what I can conjure up with limited ingredients, a tiny holiday kitchen and a serious need for spice!

There’s something about being on holiday in France that makes me fall in love with the simplicity of French cuisine all over again. 🇫🇷🥖🧀

But as much as I adore bread, cheese and all those gorgeous French flavours… there comes a point when I NEED my spice fix! 🌶️🔥

And that’s when my Spice Trove curry kits make an appearance. I never go away without one (or two!) tucked into the suitcase.

Last night’s choice? Goan Vindaloo. 🌶️🍛
Because obviously, when it’s pushing 40°C in France, the perfect dinner is a fiery Goan curry… right?! 😂
Simple, delicious and packed with flavour — just the spice hit I was craving.

Holiday rule: bread and cheese by day, curry by night. ❤️

Today we said goodbye to our beautiful Penny after more than 17 amazing years together. 💔🐾

Rob and I rescued her as a tiny kitten from an abandoned council property, where she’d been surviving on Weetabix. From that day on, she became part of our family and was there through everything – five house moves, life’s highs and lows, my pregnancy (she loved kneading my bump!), becoming our little one’s devoted bodyguard, bringing us endless “gifts” of birds and mice, and, in her later years, demanding constant food and deciding the shower made the perfect cat toilet!

She filled our home with love, laughter, comfort and so many wonderful memories. We were incredibly lucky that she chose us all those years ago, and we’ll always be grateful for every moment we shared.

Sleep peacefully, our beautiful girl. You were loved beyond words and will be missed every single day. ❤️

Penny taught us that the smallest acts of love can last a lifetime—a reminder I’m carrying with me in both life and my little business, Spice Trove. 🌶️❤️

If you’ve been wondering whether I’ve fallen into a giant sack of cumin... I’m still here. 😂

Social media and I haven’t exactly been best friends lately. The truth is, behind Spice Trove is just... me.

By day I’m a full-time teacher. I’m also a mum. Then, once everyone else has finished for the day, I’m measuring, bagging, packing and generally turning my kitchen into a spice warehouse.🌶️

Spice Trove was meant to be a little side hustle. Turns out it didn’t get the memo. These days it happily eats up most evenings and a fair few weekends too.

The reality is, I have to choose between posting about the spices... or actually packing them. The orders usually win. (I’m hoping that’s the right choice! 😅)

So yes, I’ve been a bit rubbish at posting, but I promise I’ve not gone anywhere. I’m still here, still covered in spice dust, still ridiculously grateful for every order, and still pinching myself that so many of you support this little business.

So... don’t forget me. I’ll try not to leave it quite so long before popping up again. ❤️
