⚽ £7,142,500 FOR A FOOTBALL SHIRT?! 🤯

Yes, you read that correctly. OVER SEVEN MILLION POUNDS!

And the story behind the most expensive football shirt ever sold at auction is almost as incredible as the price itself.

🇦🇷 Diego Maradona. Argentina v England. Mexico World Cup, 1986.

One match. Two of the most famous goals in football history.

✋ First came the infamous 'Hand of God', when Maradona used his hand to beat England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

⚽ Just minutes later, he produced one of the greatest individual goals ever scored, weaving through the England defence before finding the net.

Argentina won 2–1 and went on to lift the World Cup.

But here's where the story gets REALLY interesting...

👕 After the match, England midfielder Steve Hodge swapped shirts with Maradona.

Hodge kept that famous blue Argentina No.10 shirt for 36 years, even loaning it to the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Then, in May 2022, the shirt went under the hammer at Sotheby's in London.

💰 Estimated value: £4–6 million.

🔨 FINAL SALE PRICE: £7,142,500!

A world record for a football shirt sold at auction.

And here's another fascinating detail...

The shirt wasn't just authenticated by its history. Specialists used photomatching technology, examining tiny details in the fabric, badges and numbering against photographs taken during the match.

Proof that in the world of memorabilia, provenance and the story behind an item can be just as important as the item itself.
