For more than 160 years, Hydes has been proud to be part of Britain's hospitality industry.

Today, pubs, restaurants, cafés and hotels are facing significant challenges, and that's why we're backing the VAT's The Problem campaign, which is calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%.

Hospitality isn't just about food and drink. It's about jobs, communities, local high streets and bringing people together.

Exciting news! Hydes is investing £1.5M to refurbish , one of our most iconic pubs in Parkgate near Chester.

The project will include a full interior modernisation that carefully considers the building’s history, dating back to circa 1850, ensuring that diners continue to enjoy the site’s unique character and stunning views over the estuary. Additionally, the refurbishment includes a significantly improved function room to cater to private events and gatherings.

The Boat House will reopen early June with seasonal dining and our signature cask ales. We can't wait for you to see it.

We’re tackling February with a mullet-inspired seasonal ale as the Six Nations kicks off!

This February we will be launching Mullet Over, the second ale in our 2026 seasonal series celebrating iconic hairstyles. Landing just as the Six Nations rugby championship gets underway, Mullet Over will be pouring across our pubs throughout the month.

Mullet Over (4.2% ABV) is a dark brown premium ale, brewed to deliver the depth and character of a proper match-day pint. Crafted using three different malts, it brings rich toffee and roasted aromas, followed by flavours of biscuit, fruit and roasted malt on the palate. A subtle lift of citrus from American hops adds balance and a refreshing finish, making it a great choice for both sports fans and cask ale lovers.

This release follows the successful January debut of Hairy Porter, the first ale in our 2026 seasonal range.

Mullet Over will remain the featured cask ale in Hydes pubs until March, when the next ale in our 2026 seasonal collection takes centre stage.

As the hospitality sector continues to face staffing challenges, we’re proud to be championing internal progression through a wave of promotions across the business. Stephen Jackson, who joined Hydes as a pub general manager in 2015 and is now business development manager for our tenanted estate, following experience across operations, training and marketing.

Stephen’s journey reflects our long term commitment to developing talent from within. From bar staff progressing into deputy and general manager roles, to colleagues stepping into senior operational and head office positions, we continue to invest in training, apprenticeships and structured development programmes. By recognising hard work, supporting ambition and creating clear career pathways, Hydes is building strong teams, retaining talent and securing a sustainable future for our pubs.

At Hydes, community sits at the heart of everything we do, especially at Christmas 🎄

This festive season, we were proud to see host its free annual Christmas party for local pensioners, welcoming over 90 guests for a truly special day.

Guests enjoyed a 3 course Christmas lunch, drinks, music and an afternoon filled with laughter, conversation and festive cheer. The event was made possible thanks to year round fundraising and the generosity of our team, pub regulars and the wider local community. Proof of what can be achieved when people come together!

The Old Plough has been part of the Hydes estate since 1911, and earlier this year benefited from a £550k refurbishment as part of our ongoing investment in both our pubs and the communities they serve.

We’re incredibly proud of the Old Plough team, led by General Manager Niamh Kenny, for delivering a successful event that brought local people together.
Moments like these remind us why pubs matter!
