Lemonaid 🍋💛

Last week we welcomed another brilliant drinks supplier to the list - .global! And judging by the response, you lot were just as excited as we were. As soon as the delivery landed, the bottles were flying straight back out on your orders 👏🏼

We first tried the range a couple of weeks ago and pretty much every flavour was a hit with the team at ON. Made with organic ingredients, Fairtrade-certified, and free from additives or artificial flavours, these are soft drinks done properly 🙂‍↕️

But there’s more to Lemonaid than just great drinks👇🏼

Founded in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, Lemonaid is a soft drinks company with a mission. Since 2010, they have donated 5p from every bottle sold to the Lemonaid & ChariTea Foundation, helping to fund social projects in the regions where their ingredients are sourced. To date, the foundation has raised more than €12 million to fund projects across the Global South ❤️

From supporting education and creating employment opportunities to empowering women and young people, the foundation works alongside local organisations to help communities strengthen their livelihoods sustainably and independently 🙌🏼

Delicious drinks that also give back? That’s something we can definitely get behind 💛

are back! 🤩🌿

With all the warm spring weather we’ve had this year, UK produce has come on a little earlier than usual, meaning we’ve not noticed the dreaded gap quite as much. That said, we’re definitely grateful for the recent rain 🌧️

Over the past few weeks we’ve welcomed back Newfields, Pollybell, Flourish, and now Middle Ground, as the UK season really starts to ramp up. We love a warehouse fulla veg, especially when it’s UK grown 🌾

We’re always pleased to see Middle Ground back on the list. We’ve been working with them for a couple of years now and their produce never disappoints 💚

For those who don’t know them, Middle Ground are based just outside Bath, where a team of five, alongside seasonal volunteers, runs a 16-acre regenerative organic farm. As well as growing incredible veg, they also supply veg boxes to their local community 🥦🥕

They’re starting well with a great selection so be sure to peruse through their full list. Photo’d above are their oregano, sage, rainbow chard, short cucumbers and spinach 🌿

Weekend recipe inspo 💚🌱

whipped up this delicious Shakshuka for us last week, and it’s safe to say it went down a treat 🍅🍳

If you’re looking for a brunch idea this weekend, we’d definitely recommend giving this one a go. 🤤

You’ll need:
- 1 Tin Chopped Tomato - Classico
- 1 Yellow Onion, Sliced - Green Organics
- 1 Red Pepper, Sliced - Camposeven
- 2 Cloves Garlic, Minced -
- 1 Tsp Baharat Seasoning -
- 1 Tsp Smoked Paprika -
- 1 Tsp Harissa Powder -
- 2 Eggs -
- A Splash of White Wine Vinegar - RAW

To Serve:
- Dukkah -
- Red Cabbage -
- Chopped Dill - Vasco
- Pain L’Ancienne -
- Greek Yoghurt -

First, make the stew. Place a sauce pan over a medium heat, add a good glug of olive oil and add the onion and pepper. After a few minutes, add the garlic. Once fragrant, and the veg is soft, add in the spices. Allow these to warm through for a few minutes and then add the chopped tomato. Bring up to a simmer and cook for around an hour stirring occasionally.

When the stew is nearly ready, get a saucepan of boiling water rolling gently with a good splash of white wine vinegar.

When the stew is cooked and the tomato has reduced a good amount, season with balsamic vinegar and salt to taste. If it tastes a little acidic, balance this out with some honey.

Now poach your eggs in the pan of water for 3 and a half minutes. Take them out of the pan with a slotted spoon and place on a cloth or kitchen roll.

Scoop some stew into a bowl, add your eggs on top and add your toppings. Serve with plenty of toasted Pain L’Ancienne to mop up runny yolks and stew! 🍞🍳

💚🌱

This week we’re celebrating Wake Up To Organic with the - and honestly, it’s just giving us another excuse to shout about all the incredible breakfasts we’ve had over the past couple of months.

Here’s some of us enjoying yesterday’s wares in the scorchio weather 🌞🥵

It’s safe to say everyone’s favourite time of the morning at ONHQ is heading up to the kitchen after 3–4 hours of hauling veg about the place and tucking into a proper staff brekkie. It definitely helps that we always seem to fall lucky with a v talented chef on the team who can whip up something delish. It’d be rude not to when we’re surrounded by so much amazing organic produce every day 🥒🥕

And we’re not talking plain toast and cereal here…

We’re talking massive bowls of soup, cheese toasties, curries, pasta, salads, tagines - whatever keeps us going. Lentil-loaded spag bol at 8am? Absolutely 🤤

But does choosing organic really make a difference?

In short: yes 🌾

In long…

Non-organic foods are up to 4x more likely to contain pesticide residues - especially oats, bread, wheat products, some fruits and leafy greens. Swapping to organic can help lower your exposure to unnecessary chemicals from the very start of your day 💪🏼

Organic produce has also been found to contain higher levels of beneficial nutrients, with some studies showing up to 30–40% more polyphenols and up to 69% more antioxidants 🤩

And your gut will thank you too 💚

Organic foods are typically free from artificial preservatives, additives and synthetic fertilisers, helping to support a healthier gut microbiome.

So whether your breakfast is toast, porridge, soup or pasta… waking up to organic is always a good idea 🌞

We’ve 2 new suppliers on for you this week, starting with the and their 100% pure coconut water! 🥥

A few of you have asked for this… so we listened 😊

Made with just one ingredient - young green coconuts handpicked by small hold farmers in a single region of the Philippines - it’s about as close as you can get to drinking straight from the coconut. Instead of heat pasteurisation, they use high-pressure processing to keep everything fresh while preserving the natural flavour and nutrients. 💪🏼

They kindly sent us some samples, which we’ve been enjoying on hot warehouse days. If you’re a coconut water fan, it’s lovely and refreshing (though we’ve learned it’s a bit of an acquired taste for some of the team 😅). Even better, the natural electrolytes and antioxidants can turn it pink over time - your very own naturally pink drink 💗

Next up is the udderly delicious yogurt and kefir from 🐄🥛

To complement our yogurt supply from Loch Arthur, we’re excited to introduce this family-run farm with over 80 years of sustainable farming behind them 🌾

Their herd of grass-fed Guernsey cows roam freely around the pastures on their farm in Pilton, Somerset. They produce rich, organic milk, that’s turned into naturally thick yogurt and kefir - you won’t find any additives, emulsifiers, or stabilisers here. Everything is handmade by a small local team and packed in fully recyclable or plastic-free packaging 🫙

Brown Cow also very kindly sent us some samples to taste test. The kefir is smooth with a gentle tang, packed full of beneficial bacteria, while the whole milk yogurt is thick and creamy. Our standouts were the ginger kefir, strawberry kefir and the vanilla yogurt - though honestly, everything was delicious. It’s easy to see why they’ve won so many awards 🥇🥈

Our pals at Soil Association popped by a few weeks ago to share breakfast with us and film part of this wee film in our warehouse with our Sean. Hope you like it as much as we enjoyed being involved ☺️💚

Phwoar… just look at those apricots 🍑🤩

Stone fruit season is officially here, and we’ve got the first apricots in from Thaymin, Bio & Bio and Dynamis. Excitement is always high at ONHQ when these land - and Thaymin’s in particular were a big hit last year 🍑👀

Our range of is also expanding, after a small start with some cherry vines last week we’ve now almost got the full line up: heirloom, classic vine, mini plum mixed colour, and cherry vine mixed colour. Red cherry vines are in good supply, but the rest are limited - so they’ll go fast but as always we’ll share them out as fairly as possible 🍅❤️

Something new and a bit different from Campo: introducing the Zucchiolo. Described as a cross between a cucumber and a courgette, this is a super versatile veggie that can be eaten either raw or cooked and provides a fresh but subtly sweet flavour. Plus, a percentage of proceeds from Zucchiolo seed sales goes to the Cellbitec Foundation, supporting research into cancer and other degenerative diseases 🥒💚

And a first from Bio & Bio: mini watermelons!! Pair with some fresh mint and some crumbled Medita from High Weald and you’ve got a refreshing salad to enjoy on these lovely warm days we’ve been having 🍉🌿

Our first few of weeks selling the delicious wares from .uk have gone really well. Inside our first delivery there was a treasure trove of goodies for us to all sample at base and our whipped up some tasty burgers and salads loaded with tasty pickles...a lovely treat to enjoy on one of our sunniest mornings yet this year. We sent another pallet down to these guys loaded with carrots, beets and cucs just last week so the flow of pickles should be a steady one. We really love cyclical relationships with suppliers like this 😊❤️

In another full-circle moment, we’re really pleased to welcome young Dmytro or ‘Deem’ to the ON team - it’s very rare for folk to be allowed more than a one syllable name at our gaff! 😅

Our first met Deem’s brother, Serge approximately 10 years ago whilst visiting Kyiv, and after Serge and his partner Polina - .media - spent time living with Sean and Cathryn (after Russia invaded Ukraine), Deem has now joined Organic North to start his own chapter here in the UK. There’s a brilliant documentary film about Serge and Pol, made by a super-talented pal of ours called Tom - - who as well as being a fab film maker, also doubles up to produce by hand, our very own work t-shirts too! We’ll link to the documentary on our story - well worth a watch we reckon 🤭

Let the UK “Sparrow Grass” season begin! 🌱💚

That’s right - our first UK asparagus is landing next week from the guys at (hurray indeed!), and we’ll have it available in loose stems, 500g bunches, and 250g bunches. 🌿

And because we love a fun fact… 🤭

Turns out, “asparagus” comes from the Greek aspharagos, originally rooted in a Persian word meaning “sprout” or “shoot.” Then, in Old and Middle English it became sperage or sparage, before “sparrow grass” emerged as a 17th-19th century folk etymology - a reshaping of an unfamiliar word into something more familiar (or, in other words, a properly Englished-up nickname).

It stuck around for quite a while too - until the 1800s, when it was deemed not quite posh enough anymore… and “asparagus” made its comeback. 🌱
