🧀🥵Cheese judging - heatwave edition 🧀🥵

Hats off to all of the staff, volunteers and stewards who made sure that the majority of the cheese survived the heat at this year's International Cheese and Dairy Awards 👊

I always enjoy cheese judging, even the not so sexy categories (yes cheese strings were involved!). And I was lucky to do some retail champion judging as well.

The winning cheese, Kapiti Kikorangi blue cheese, survived a trip from New Zealand as well as the heat so it must be really delicious 😋

Reserve supreme champion went to who make really spectacular Cheshire cheese 🎉🎉.

After buying it a couple of times recently, I am fully back in the Ogleshield zone! 

A raclette-style cheese made by using rich Jersey milk. It's very savoury in the best way.

It's a melter and I've had it in toasties, tarts, fritatta, over chips (don't judge) and melted in my tiny party raclette. 

When I get it again, I'll be putting it on the flat grill pan we have on our BBQ and spooning it over some really good burgers and new potatoes. 

If you get some quickly, it'll also be great with fresh asparagus.

National Cheese Day was so much fun 😁

The lovely folk at my local library invited me to host a cheese tasting for 50+ book worms.

Each cheese was either mentioned in, or inspired by, a book. I put on my best Jackanory reading voice (and my specs because I'm at the squinty stage in life 🤓) and we had extracts from the books before introducing each cheese and the cheese makers.

Definitely a fun session: the venue was perfect and I loved that everyone had questions and opinions on their favourite of the night.

Honestly, Leigh Library has so many great events. Next week they have nearly 40 authors on site for a book festival, and my sis and I have booked onto a hotpot dinner with an author next month. So check out your local library as it's all happening in those shelves!

🧀 Artisan Cheese Awards 🧀

Oops, it's taken me a week to post this, but I had a fantastic day judging at the Artisan Cheese Awards last week. 

Over 600 cheeses from over 100 micro to medium British and Irish producers. 

I was lucky enough to spend my judging with a fantastic panel of pros and am really pleased with our category winner. 

🏆 The supreme champion will be announced this weekend and that top table looked strong, so I can't wait to see who gets the trophy this year. 

Thank you to Matthew for having me, and the team who make it run like clockwork on the day 🥰.

(And yes, I did say 2006 on the video. Obviously had a cat distracting me 🤣🤣)

Popping this on my grid to say thank you to for being the best kind of cheese assistant this weekend.

She cleaned, potted up samples, gave me social media homework and coaxed people into my demos with the promise of cheese and good times 🤣

Fuelled by Pepsi Max and cheese!

Also, she has a really good knack for cheese tasting so who knows, maybe she'll be doing these sessions one day!

🧀 Festival vibes 🧀

It's been the best weekend at Warrington Food and Drink Festival.

Rain managed to not stop playing and the whole site was busy between the showers.

I was lucky enough to serve nine excellent British cheeses across four sessions in the demo tent.

Highlights include a little girl asking me for a photo because she was also a 'cheese monster' 👾, reuniting with and folk coming back after seeing me last year ☺️.

Thank you so much and well done on another fantastic event 🍾
