Gorgeous tapas in the centre of Manchester. A beautiful place, over 2 floors. This is my second visit.

El Gato Negro is in a great location. I was going to the Royal Exchange Theatre after, so it was perfect.

I love tapas for the ability to create your own size meal. I usually can’t even think about dessert after having a main meal, but could get around that today by having a few small plates.

This visit we got the bread with vinegar and balsamic - it is really great honestly, not just a bit of a filler! We also got the salt cod croqueta, monkfish skewers, cauliflower and the pisto with goats cheese.

The Christmas specials were still on too but I am fully out of the Christmas mindset now so not for me this time!

The monkfish came with a beautiful smokey tomato sauce. This and the cauliflower were my highlights. All the veg dishes I’ve had at El Gato Negro have been stunning.

We also got dessert. I had the crema catalana and tried the basque cheesecake. Both were really excellent and definitely big enough that you could share one.

It’s a lovely place with a nice relaxed atmosphere. My one warning/reminder is that the bar seats (including the chef’s table) are not plus sized friendly as they have a fixed width you need to fit into. So be aware when booking! Not a problem for everyone, but I’m a size 20 and barely fit. It’s the closest I’ve been to feeling completely humiliated by seating so I want to give a heads up to my fellow plus sized friends 🫶

Having said that, avoid that seating and it’s a fantastic place to go!!

Coffee and doughnuts. Right at the entrance to Avenham Park so perfect for fuelling a stroll around the park.

I’ve been a fan of Holy Grounds since they opened. I love that they serve from their garage and I remember the old days before the fancy doughnuts!

Things have got even better over time, and they serve the best doughnuts in Preston. They have new flavours every month are they are incredible. They also have another location, but I’ve not visited that one (Leyland??)

The coffee is also great. They have a Preston Fog on the menu too. So mysterious!

An essential place to visit if you’re near by. And you just visit if you go to the park

World food buffet in the Animate complex in Preston.

I was quite impressed with Cosmo. In all honesty, the buffet style is not my favourite, but lots of the food was nice.

You can see everything I tried in the images. The roast chicken was really good! I was most impressed with the hot food section. There was loads to choose from and it all looked like it was being well looked after.

I was more skeptical of the desserts. Particularly the chocolate fountain and the sweets and things around it. This was a bit of a kids free for all, so would not be too confident of hygiene standards!

The decor is beautiful in places and I immediately fell in love with the robot cat 🐈

It would be a great place to bring the family for a decent priced meal, that would suit lots of different tastes, and appetites. I would definitely recommend it for bottomless teens!

I’ll likely try it again - and take the kids!!

Pep Talk Coffee is on the Market and sells lovely coffee! It’s on the spot where the OG Jonah’s was, and I’m really glad to see another coffee place there.

It’s been decorated in a lovely way with lots of interesting things to look at, and there’s a bit of a music theme too

I’ve visited a few times and just had a flat white each time. Sorry - boring order! The coffee was lovely 🥰

I be back to try a few other things 🙂

really sad to hear Brew and Bake have closed. I loved their breakfasts and they had the best scrambled eggs ever.

I visited a few weeks back and had the full Lancashire breakfast. Pictured here you can see the veggie and non-veggie versions.

Best of luck for the team and whatever they do next!

Nell’s do some enormous New York style pizzas and you can buy them by the slice. They have a really interesting choice of toppings - I had the Cheese and Onion pie pizza and it was lovely! Burnt onions, lancs cheese, mozzarella, roast garlic cream, chives and parmesan.

I also had the nduja dough bites and three dips - all great.

The day I visited was a heat wave day so we also got some ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream was lovely, but the cookie dough part was not for me. I was wishing it was a wafer the whole time. But if you love cookie dough, you’ll love them!

I need to revisit to try more of the pizzas.
