🍰🐓 SOMETHING SWEET COULD BE COMING TO ABBEY BOTTOM FARM! 🍪🥚

We’ve been toying with a little idea for a while now, and we’d love to know what you all think!

Those who know me will know that I actually do quite a lot of baking behind closed doors! 👩‍🍳 It’s something I really enjoy, and I’ve been wondering for a while whether to share a little more of it with you all.

I’ll pop a few photos of some of my homemade bakes on this post so you can see the sort of things I love making! 📸❤️

So, here’s our little idea…

We’re thinking about introducing some Friday and Saturday homemade bakes to our existing farm egg shed! 🏡

Nothing fancy, nothing extravagant, just good old-fashioned, traditional baking. The sort of treats that remind you of your childhood!

We’re thinking things like:

🍰 Proper old-school sprinkle cake

🍫 Chocolate concrete and traditional traybakes

🍪 Big chunky homemade cookies

🍞 Freshly baked bread

🧁 Classic homemade cakes and other nostalgic favourites

There would be individual slices and portions, along with larger traybakes for those who fancy taking a bit more home!

And of course, we’d be using our very own farm-fresh eggs, particularly our lovely duck eggs, which are absolutely brilliant for making beautifully light, fluffy cakes! 🦆🥚

The plan would be to keep everything simple, affordable and homemade. No fancy bakery, no enormous menu, just a small selection of delicious, freshly baked goodies each weekend.

You could grab a little treat while picking up your eggs. Although whether the cake actually makes it home is another matter! 🤭

BUT BEFORE WE GET CARRIED AWAY… WE WANT YOUR OPINIONS! ❤️

🥚🐔 HELP! WE’RE DROWNING IN EGGS! 🦆🥚😂

Apparently, nobody has told the girls at Abbey Bottom Farm that summer is over! 🍂❄️

Despite the colder weather and shorter days, our lovely chickens are STILL laying like there’s no tomorrow… and the ducks have decided to join in too! 🐔🦆

We’re getting eggs coming out of our ears! There’s only so many omelettes, scrambled eggs, cakes and Yorkshire puddings one family can eat before we start clucking ourselves! 😂

📣 CALLING ALL LOCAL BAKERS & CAKE SHEDS! 🧁🍰🥚

Our girls have gone into egg-producing overdrive 😂🐔🦆 We’re currently collecting nearly 40 eggs a day, so we have more eggs than we know what to do with!

We’d love to hear from any local bakers, cake makers, cake sheds, cafés or anyone baking regularly who gets through a large quantity of eggs.

If you’d be interested in taking larger quantities on a regular basis, please drop us a message. We have both fresh chicken and duck eggs available, collected daily from our own very spoilt girls. 🥚❤️

And you really can’t get much fresher than straight from the hen house! 🐔

Sorry for the radio silence — we got married! 💍🤍 Then disappeared off on a little mini-moon, so we’ve been a bit quiet on here.

But unfortunately, we have some rather sad news about our beloved Boris. 🦆💔

Those who have followed Boris’s adventures will know that we’ve always thought she was, quite frankly, an exceptionally thick duck. 😂 She walks into things, gets herself in ridiculous situations and generally seems to have absolutely no idea what’s going on around her.

Well… turns out we owe Boris an apology. 😭😂

Boris is actually blind. 💔

We feel absolutely awful for spending the last six months thinking she was just a few sandwiches short of a picnic when, in reality, the poor girl simply couldn’t see where she was going! 🥺

Thankfully, Boris doesn’t seem to have got the memo that we should all feel sorry for her. She’s adapted amazingly, follows her friends around and is still happily living her best little duck life. 🦆🤍

We’ll obviously keep a very close eye on her and make any changes she needs to keep her safe.

So please spare a little love for Boris… not thick after all, just blind. 😭❤️🦆

🐔🥚 NOW THAT’S AN EGG!! 🥚🐔

One of our girls at Abbey Bottom Farm has seriously outdone herself this morning! 😂

Just look at the size of this absolute WHOPPER compared with a normal chicken egg! 😳 We’re calling it now… definitely a double yolker! 🍳🍳

It’s genuinely one of the biggest eggs we’ve ever produced — and yes, I’ve popped it straight out on the egg stand, so whoever gets there first gets the monster! 😂

I’m not sure whether to congratulate the hen… or apologise to her! 🤣🐔

🥚🐔 EGGS, EGGS & MORE EGGS! 🐔🥚

Well, the girls are laying eggs left, right and centre at the moment… which is probably just as well, seeing as my chicken maths seems to have got slightly out of hand and I may have accidentally bought even more chickens 😂🤦‍♀️

We are quite literally bursting at the seams! 🐔🐔🐔

The egg stand is stocked with plenty of lovely fresh eggs, with a gorgeous selection of colours from our mixed flock 🤎🤍💚💙

You never quite know what colours you’re going to get in your box!

🐣 Fertile Hatching Eggs Available – Abbeybottom Farm 🥚

We’ve now finished hatching all of our chicks for this year, but our cockerels are still happily running with the girls, so we still have a few fertile hatching eggs available.

🐔 All hybrid crosses – bred from good laying birds, so ideal for anyone wanting productive hens
🎨 A lovely mixture of breeds, colours and markings
💷 £12 for half a dozen

You never quite know what you’re going to hatch, which is half the fun! 🐥

🐔🥚 A little update from Abbey Bottom Farm! 🥚🦆

You may have noticed our new sign is up at the honesty box! ❤️

We’re now selling our chicken eggs by the dozen as well as half dozens, as we’ve added more lovely ladies to the flock. This is all part of our little project for next year, when we’re hoping to have a gorgeous selection of coloured eggs too! 🌈🥚

We’ve also made paying easier — if you don’t have cash, you can now scan the QR code or use the bank details on the sign to pay by bank transfer.

Just one little reminder 🙏🏼 this is an honesty box. Unfortunately, on a few occasions we’ve been a little short when we’ve counted up the eggs sold against the money received.

We really don’t want to have to put cameras up, so please help us keep it as the simple little honesty box it’s meant to be. ❤️

Sorry the Happy Bottom Farm egg stand has been a little slow lately! 🥚🐔🦆

This heat has been playing absolute havoc with everyone. Our ducks have basically gone on strike and decided that laying eggs is far less important than spending their days cooling themselves down in the stream! 😂🦆💦

We’ve also been using quite a lot of our chicken eggs ourselves for our breeding programmes. The good news is we’re now all finished with those and have lots of lovely little chicks to show for it. 🐣🐥

Unfortunately, the hot weather has also played havoc with our incubators, so our hatch rates haven’t been anywhere near as good as we would normally expect.

Hopefully, now things are starting to cool down a little, the girls will get back to business and the egg stand will soon be back to normal! 🥚🥚🥚
