Goldstone Hall Farm- Sunday August 6th 2023
Well a very trying week, for all residents of Goldstone Hall Farm, dust everywhere, coating everything. Hopefully the worst is over, for the time being, as the new plaster is now being installed. Special mention to Ann and Molly, striving to keep some degree of civilisation, during the week.
Outside, nothing big or glamorous happened. Rob, the drainage expert, started to investigate the drain pipes, to take away the roof rainwater, but a lot of the drains are blocked or collapsed. We also need to replace/repair the guttering on the northern side of the main barn, as this has not been in place for decades.
Shane, the bricklayer, has bricked up a doorway, on the hotel side of the main barn, to improve security as well as prevent rainwater flooding through the doorway. Shane has also commenced repairing and replacing broken and missing bricks on the main barn, and doing an excellent job. There will be many weeks of repairs needed.
The Top Field has been sprayed, to kill off all of the grass, as a precursor to levelling the top field, to make it safe to gallop a horse, also improving the value of the land.
Dave and Dan will be back, in the morning, to remove the piles of waste soil and rubbish, with their tracked digger and also to take down a couple more surplus trees and move huge blocks of sandstone.
While we have had a very wet July and August to date, we have had great success with our flower beds, especially the Black Eyed Susans.
The cost of clearing fifty years of neglect continues as we are now up to fifteen 8 Cubic yard skips, that have been filled and taken away.
Work is about to commence on replacing the old water pipes, both to Goldstone Hall Farm and three of the neighbours, whose pipes need to cross our property.
The high tech security camera system should be installed soon, we are just waiting for the electricians to receive the cameras.
All in all, a trying week, but nothing that was not expected and could not be coped with.
Have a great week.
