Goldstone Hall Farm- April 24th 2024.
Dave Nagington Tree Services arrived this morning, in full strength, along with National Grid, to turn off the power, so a large sycamore could be taken down. They also removed a second sycamore and two old apple trees, that produced inedible apples.
Fingers crossed, the family bathroom will be completed by Friday.
The old rendering on the gable end of the house was in terrible condition and the old render has been removed, ready for work to commence on Saturday.
Still waiting for the paving to commence and the CCTV, while working, is needing to be added to.
Everybody tells me that Rome was not built in a day!

Goldstone Hall Farm -Update March 7th 2024.
We have now been at the farm for just over one year and a very eventful year it has been.
Outside, massive amounts of soil, tree stumps and old bricks and concrete have been moved and preparations are under way for a base for the stables.
Spring has arrived and the daffodils and camellias are in bloom.
Inside the en-suite has been completed and on the ground floor a structural wall is being taken out.
This work has to be completed, prior to renovating the family bathroom..
Fingers crossed the architect is now ready to submit the planning application, for the kitchen extension, so still a lot going on.
Looking forwards to summer.

Sunday 20th August
While Glenn has still been down under visiting family we have been pressing on with work
Inside.
Mums sitting room is well underway. Plastering will be finished on Monday and the fireplace was taken out last week ready for a log burner to be installed.
Victoria’s bedroom has been striped back to the bones ready for sound proofing on the Parti wall with Alexandra and plastering everywhere else.
Work to clear all the area around the septic tank is finished and now we need to do some fencing off work.
We have loaded yet another 8yard skip with rubbish and rubble.
Victoria went to a 21st Birthday Party last night with friends she has met through the young farmers.
Honey and Pippa have been chilling whilst Ellie has been practicing for her Andrex Toilet Roll future career.
The weather today has been beautiful but the last 72 hrs has been so windy.
Have a great week everyone

Sunday 13th August 2023
So Glenn is back down under visiting family and it
would be fair to say that our views are a little different … I will let you guess which is mind
There has been lots of
Progress this week! We have plaster back on the walls in the Hall, on the Stairs and Landing. Mums sitting room is looking a little worse for wear as all the plaster was either damp or completely past it’s sell by date so that will be replastered this week.
Outside Dave and Dan have been back taking away more soil and debris. This has included lowering the soil level behind Mums garden and clearing away the years of overgrown nettles and bramble round the septic tank.
Whilst Glenn has been away I can report I haven’t killed off any of the flowers and plants outside and we have a second flourish of roses on a beautiful climbing rose and some lovely pink flowers in the circle at the front which I don’t know what they are called.
Have a wonderful Everyone❤️

Goldstone Hall Farm- Sunday August 6th 2023
Well a very trying week, for all residents of Goldstone Hall Farm, dust everywhere, coating everything. Hopefully the worst is over, for the time being, as the new plaster is now being installed. Special mention to Ann and Molly, striving to keep some degree of civilisation, during the week.
Outside, nothing big or glamorous happened. Rob, the drainage expert, started to investigate the drain pipes, to take away the roof rainwater, but a lot of the drains are blocked or collapsed. We also need to replace/repair the guttering on the northern side of the main barn, as this has not been in place for decades.
Shane, the bricklayer, has bricked up a doorway, on the hotel side of the main barn, to improve security as well as prevent rainwater flooding through the doorway. Shane has also commenced repairing and replacing broken and missing bricks on the main barn, and doing an excellent job. There will be many weeks of repairs needed.
The Top Field has been sprayed, to kill off all of the grass, as a precursor to levelling the top field, to make it safe to gallop a horse, also improving the value of the land.
Dave and Dan will be back, in the morning, to remove the piles of waste soil and rubbish, with their tracked digger and also to take down a couple more surplus trees and move huge blocks of sandstone.
While we have had a very wet July and August to date, we have had great success with our flower beds, especially the Black Eyed Susans.
The cost of clearing fifty years of neglect continues as we are now up to fifteen 8 Cubic yard skips, that have been filled and taken away.
Work is about to commence on replacing the old water pipes, both to Goldstone Hall Farm and three of the neighbours, whose pipes need to cross our property.
The high tech security camera system should be installed soon, we are just waiting for the electricians to receive the cameras.
All in all, a trying week, but nothing that was not expected and could not be coped with.
Have a great week.

Goldstone Hall Farm- July 30th 2023.
Well a week when the greatest emphasis turned indoors.
Work has commenced to refurbish the room that we are calling “Molly’s Sitting Room” but the plasterer let us down and work has commenced upstairs to replace the girls bedroom doors with new, full height oak doors.
Regrettably this has revealed that the majority of the plaster on the walls will need to be replaced, so the house is now in chaos.
Happily I depart for Australia in just over one week!! 🤣🤣.
We now have a house sign, at the end of the entrance drive, which also has a large solar powered light illuminating the sign at night.
The sign will be re-located when the driveway is re-furbished.
The bricklayer has bricked up one of the doors to the large barn, to improve security and work will commence shortly on overhauling the drains, at the front of the house and the rear of the main barn.
Work is also scheduled to commence, early tomorrow morning, on spraying the top two acre field, in preparation for rotovating it, ready for a large bulldozer to come to smooth out the field, to make it safe for galloping horses.
Finally, Victoria and I attended The Game Fair, on Ladies Day on Friday, as guests of the CLA ( Country Landowners Association), of which we are now members. This was set in the wonderful grounds of Wragley Hall, in Warwickshire and is a staggeringly huge event, a Must Do for next year.
Have a wonderful week.

Goldstone Hall Farm- Sunday July 23rd 2023
Well something of a quiet week, as far as Great Leaps Forward are concerned.
Some progress has been made in clearing the overgrown area around the septic tank, a few months ago we could not even find it. Hopefully it will all be cleared this coming week.
Bricklayers are due to arrive in the morning, to brick up a door into the western end of the barn, as well as the old gateway between the former manor house and the farm house. If we are happy with their work there is a long list of further work for them.
The girls and Molly are also pleased as the built in wardrobes, for their bedrooms have been ordered and a contractor has been retained to replace the doors into their bedrooms, as the doorways are only five foot six inches tall, with Alexandra being six foot tall, a recipe for a sore head.
In the garden, work has continued to incorporate the northern section into the lawned garden, at the rear of the house. The thing about moving to a property, that has been continually inhabited since at least 1270, is that we have no idea what is buried, under our feet. Russell unearthed two huge and heavy sandstone blocks, that are so heavy, we will need a digger to move them to the front wall, where they will be incorporated, once the trees are removed.
The efforts to reclaim the barn continue, with special thanks to Chris for clearing the main room upstairs, then Russell removed two ton of old timber from the mezzanine, over the workshop.
Finally, huge thanks to Helen and Paul, who volunteered to assist moving furniture in the barn, to make way for more machinery and equipment.
Finally, a special mention for Molly, who yesterday was honoured by the Irlam Mixed Voice choir, for her dedicated service to music and singing and presented her with an engraved vase and a lovely bunch of roses.
Then today, Molly’s long term friend ( since they were 14) Dilys came with her Daughter Caroline, for a visit. Dilys moved to Shropshire, to be near her youngest Daughter in 2020, and only lives about half an hour distant.
Have a great week

Goldstone Hall Farm- Sunday July 16th 2023
Well, what a totally manic week this has been, FRIDAY especially.
James, the fencing contractor arrived, with his tractor and “post knocker”, then Dave and Daniel Nagginton arrived with their tracked 6.5ton digger, on the back of a huge trailer, pulled by an enormous JCB.
The first job for the digger was to clear away surplus Earth, around the building slab/foundation, then it was on to ripping out the huge tree stumps, on what was previously the garden boundary.
James Painter was then able to get to work, putting in the new, dog proof fence extension, including on the property boundary to the north.
We then had Dave and his digger clean out the accumulated sheep manure in the former barns, stables and cow sheds.
Then it was around to the front and the stone walled driveway, where the digger ripped out the stumps of trees that had grown, over the past fifty years. Each time a stump was ripped out, it demolished the stone wall, so all had to be rebuilt.
Big thank you to Russel aswell for all your hard work aswell this week!Dave, the decorator is toiling away inside and the dining room ( which will be Molly’s sitting room, is having all wallpaper stripped currently. Sadly, but not surprising, the plaster is so old, it will all have to be replaced.
Hooked up the new 4,000 psi, petrol, pressure washer today. Wow, what a machine, it will get plenty of use.
Of course, Ally would say the highlight of the week was the arrival of Ellie!
Have a great week.

Goldstone Hall Farm- Sunday July 9th 2023.
Great news, the office is finally finished and I will be working in there from tomorrow morning. When we inspected Goldstone Hall Farm originally, there was a weather vane on the end of the lambing shed, which the wretched people took with them.
Happily, on Saturday we erected our superb, good quality replacement, which looks great.
On Saturday the day was spent cutting down , to make a clear path for the new fence, that will border the expanded garden. All the old fence and barbed wire and old wrought iron panels, will be off to the scrap metal dealer next week.
We have also fully uncovered the concrete slab that was laid down, some fifty years ago, which we are assured was the first step on Planning Permission to build a three bed bungalow.
We will be seeking to renew the Planning Permission, as the location has fabulous views, down the valley.
Sadly the amount of mechanical cutting and sawing is taking its toll on equipment. The Honda four stroke brush cutter is on its last legs, two chain saws are in the shop for repairs and I have given up attempting to sharpen my own chains, easier to pay somebody!
So much to do, it is a pity I have a day job!
Have a great week.
