For the first time on our smallholding we managed a 100% survival rate this year, every lamb born has either gone for eating or been selected for next years breeding program.
What's even more impressive is that I did the lambing by myself this year as we found out Hayley was pregnant with our first child the week we put the tup in, this resulted in her being unable to assist with the pregnant ewes as bacterias and infections carried by the sheep can cause problems with the unborn baby.
We add haylage, fodder beer and mineral licks for our ewes from tupping right up to lambing time to ensure they get what's needed to give their lambs the best start in life but after that it's spring, summer & autumn eating grass.
6 month old lambs at target weight fed on nothing but their mothers milk and grass, not bad for amateurs😉
