☕️ Last call for El Aguacatal

We’re down to the last few bags of this standout El Salvador washed lot, the last release in our current producer series before some very exciting new coffees arrive.

Grown at elevation on the Aguacatal farm, this coffee showcases everything we love about carefully produced Salvadoran lots. Fully washed for clarity in the cup, it delivers a clean, bright profile with delicate sweetness, balanced acidity, and a smooth, elegant finish. Expect notes of soft citrus, stone fruit and gentle caramel sweetness.

It’s a beautifully structured coffee that’s been a firm favourite on our open day brew bar, versatile, expressive, and incredibly easy to enjoy.

Once it’s gone, it’s gone, we won’t be restocking this one.

💛 Grab a bag while you still can. New coffees landing soon… stay tuned. 👀

Open Day THIS Saturday at Dark Woods ✨☕️🥐💛

The mill doors will be open from 9.30am for caffeinated drinks direct from the source, and our June edition is an extra-special one.

We’re joined by local heroes Peel St. Social, serving up brunch favourites including Brekkie Buns, Picante Beans, Tiramisu French Toast, Avo Smash, and Kimchi Hash Browns.

Blyth and the team will be outside the mill serving from 9:30am until sell-out. Their delicious food can be brought inside to enjoy with our amazing coffee. We’ll also have baked goods from The Handmade Bakery, Hollyscookingdotcom, and Bolster Moor Farm Shop.

On espresso, we have Peru Asproagro and Colombia Papayo. At the filter sample bar, you’ll find Peru Asproagro, El Placer IPA, and Panama La Huella. You can also pick up retail coffees and lovely merchandise from our shop area.

We have limited indoor seating, and the hatch will be open for takeaway options. No booking is required, just turn up at your convenience, and we’ll seat you as soon as a table becomes free.

See you there - it’s going to be a tasty one

Advanced Barista Courses at Dark Woods . . . A message from Tom, our Head of Training and Customer Support

Although our ever-popular Core Barista Skills course is very much designed to get you up and running with your coffee skills, it is by no means exhaustive! With this in mind, we thought it would be a great time to remind you all about what we offer those baristas who want to move beyond the basics.

☕️ Advanced Espresso
Core Barista Skills drills the importance of brew recipes and how to achieve them using your grinder, but have you ever wondered WHY some recipes work and some don’t? Would you like to understand how to clean and maintain your grinder so that it works for you rather than against you? Do you wish that you could speak “coffee” more fluently with your customers? This course is for you!

🥛 Advanced Milk
You make decent cappuccino and latte milk, but it is not totally consistent, and you just don’t know why. You can do individual orders to a high standard but struggle with workflow and stress when it comes to larger orders or busy periods. You have got the knack of silky, shiny milk but want to flex your artistic muscles and master the classic latte art pours so that your drinks look as good as they taste. Well, what are you waiting for?!

📝 SCA Intermediate Barista Skills and SCA Professional Barista Skills

If you want proof of your current skillset or would like your knowledge entrenched by a thorough and professionally recognised educational body, these SCA affiliated courses are for you. Running for 2 and 3 days respectively, these are the gold standard for barista skills globally and must be sat and the exams passed in sequence. I can’t personally overstate the value of the Intermediate Course to my professional coffee career and I’d recommend it to anyone who sees being a barista as more than just a temporary occupation.

All courses can be viewed and booked through the TRAINING page of our website or through the webshop.

On Thursday 4 June, we celebrated our ten-year partnership with La Huella - Cafe de Panama and Pedro Moss.

The private event at our mill brought together industry friends, coffee customers, and members of the Yorkshire B-Local group.

A jolly time was had by all, with caffeine-inspired drinks and delicious food supplied by OI Dumplings.

We’re sorry we couldn’t invite everyone individually; however, you can still join in the celebrations by taking advantage of our offer of 10% off all Panama coffees via our webshop. This offer is valid until Tuesday 16 June.

The discount is automatically applied at checkout – enjoy!

For over ten years, Dark Woods Coffee has worked closely with Pedro and Katarina Moss of La Huella in Boquete, Panama, a partnership built on quality, trust, and shared curiosity.

Based at Finca Kristina and their Alpha 1 micro-mill, La Huella produces distinctive, high-altitude coffees that showcase the unique terroir of the region. As a key direct trade partner, Dark Woods sources a range of micro and nano lots from each harvest, celebrating both consistency and experimentation, particularly in innovative processing methods like natural anaerobic coffees.

This long-standing collaboration has produced award-winning coffees, including multiple Great Taste Awards, highlighting the strength of the relationship and the skill behind each lot.

Beyond coffee, the partnership has also supported community initiatives. Working with Culturama and the British Embassy, Dark Woods and La Huella helped deliver a Farmers Voice Radio programme during COVID-19, sharing vital health information with local indigenous communities.

A decade on, the relationship continues to grow, grounded in shared values, regular visits, and a commitment to exceptional coffee and positive impact.

To celebrate this special occasion, we are offering 10% off* La Huella (Natural) 250g and 1kg bags for the next ten days.
