🚆 TRAIN OF THE WEEK – CLASS 158 🚆

This week’s Train of the Week is the Class 158 Express Sprinter!

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

You can catch a train direct from Melton Mowbray to Norwich, with two early-morning direct services giving you the chance to head across to Norfolk without changing trains! 🚆➡️🌳

Perfect if you fancy exploring Norwich, doing a bit of shopping or simply having a day out somewhere different.

🚉 And here’s the railway enthusiast bit…

The Class 158 has one of the most recognisable faces on the railway, thanks to its distinctive central front gangway door.

It wasn’t just there for looks! The gangway allowed passengers and crew to walk between two Class 158 units when they were coupled together, rather than the two units being completely separated.

Combined with the large windscreens and headlights either side, it gives the 158 that unmistakable Express Sprinter look that’s been familiar on Britain’s railways for more than 30 years.

So next time you fancy an adventure, who knew you could start your morning in Melton and head straight to Norfolk?

📢 UPCOMING CLOSURES ☕🚂

Just a quick heads-up about a couple of upcoming closures at Steam & Bean:

🏦 Bank Holiday Monday – CLOSED
We’ll be taking a little Bank Holiday break and will be back serving you as normal afterwards! ☕❤️

🚧 Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September – CLOSED
Due to engineering works at Melton Mowbray Railway Station, trains will be replaced by Rail Replacement Buses over the weekend.

As a result, Steam & Bean will be closed for the weekend and back open as normal afterwards.

🚂☕ TRAIN OF THE WEEK! ☕🚂

Something a little different rolled through Melton Mowbray this week! 👀

Our Train of the Week is Class 57 No. 57310, pictured passing through the station hauling some rather unusual passengers — the new London Underground Tube stock! 🚇🚂

The new trains are currently undergoing testing at the Old Dalby Test Track, just up the line from Melton Mowbray.

That means over the coming weeks and months, keep your eyes peeled when you're at the station 👀 — you may be lucky enough to catch the new Tube trains passing through Melton on their way to and from the test track.

It's certainly not every day you get to see a London Underground train in Leicestershire! 😲

📸 We managed to grab a few photos as 57310 brought the stock through the station and right past Steam & Bean.

This recognition means so much to us, especially in what has been an incredible year for local businesses. There were 3,500 nominations this year, which is an amazing 400% increase from last year – a true reflection of just how much love and support there is for independent businesses in Melton Mowbray and beyond. 💛

🚂 TRAIN OF THE WEEK – CLASS 56 No. 56098! 🚂

This week’s choice was pretty much made for us… 56098, looking absolutely superb as it passed through Melton Mowbray! 📸

Sporting the classic BR Large Logo blue livery, 56098 is a proper piece of British heavy-freight history. Built at Doncaster Works in 1981, she’s one of the mighty Class 56s – affectionately known to railway enthusiasts as “Grids”.

💪 3,250 horsepower
⚙️ Co-Co diesel-electric
💨 Top speed: 80mph
🏗️ Built for the seriously heavy stuff – coal, steel, aggregates and other freight workings.

And we managed to get some cracking shots of her around Melton Station signal box – including a couple of perfectly timed moments alongside passing trains! 👌

There’s something about that huge BR double-arrow, yellow front and unmistakable Class 56 shape that just looks right. 😍

☕🚂 Coffee and a Grid at Melton Mowbray… not a bad combination!
